After a recent trip to NE I was pleased to see that I am getting 19 mpg on this auto 5.3. My 2003 would do about 15 mpg.

In its prime, my 2003 with the 4.8L and 3.42 gears would do 20MPG all-around hand-calculated with 10% ethanol summer blend. One summer I hit 21 for a few weeks. She's getting tired now and only gets 17-18 in the summer, sometimes 19.

Now it's up to you to judge if I'm lying or telling the truth about my mileage.

Your 2003 must've been the 5.3L with 3.73 gears. 15 is about normal for that configuration.

The 2010 probably has 3.42 gears, maybe even 3.23, and the 6-speed double-overdrive, granny first automatic transmission.

My previous truck was a 2004 Silverado and my current is a 2009 GMC Sierra. The Silverado got 19-20 MPH on the highway but the best I have gotten on the Sierra is 15-16MPH. Both trucks have the 5.3 engine and 3.73 gears.

I think I need to trade my '08 Sierra with a 4.8L,auto,3.42 ratio, 4x4 that only gets 10 MPH used to check my cattle & putter around my neighborhood for a newer one.

My 2007 GMC has a 6 cylinder. Best I got on
Interstate going 70+ is 21. Most of the time I get
19-20. I drive with an egg between gas peddle and
foot. If I'm pulling an empty trailer, 3100#, I get
14. Put a 4000# tractor on trailer I get close to
13. Winter blend fuel drops me another 2 mph.
