I was talking about the large round bales, larger than the round bales of hay. Thanks Amo

I reckon you're talking about a 'round module', instead of a 'bale'. As has been said, a ginned bale usta average about 500# (gross) including the bagging and ties. It's been so long since I grew cotton that I disremember, but I think the bagging and ties weighed 22#. Don't know what a round module weighs......

Thanks, I know nothing about cotton but a neighbor has some being picked on his land and it is very interesting here in North Florida. Thanks Amo

KEH, I had an uncle that picked a bale of cotton by himself one day. We always considered a bale to be 500 pounds.
Many years ago, there was a gin about 7 miles south of here that caught fire. When people showed up, there was an old woman that worked there dragging bales out to the loading dock. I was told that she was a small woman that was a former slave. Had to be about 1900 or before.

Rectangular module is about equal to 13-15 bales of 500# each. Attached link says the round modules are about 1/4 of the rectangular ones, see them carried 4 at a time end-to-end on module hauler trucks, or 6 on a flat bed semi. Rounds seem to really cut the number of people and machines required in the rectangular method. Don't know about $. Link may be of interest:

I don't know, Richard; a bale of seed cotton........as picked..........was about 1500#; it would gin a bale of lint cotton of about 500#. Around 'here', a good day's picking was in the 300# range of SEED cotton.....plus or minus a few pounds.

According to an article in this months progressive Farmer, the John Deer CS 690 makes a roll that weighs between 4,400 and 4,600 lbs. Requires the expense of the wrap but cuts out the guy at the module builder and other cost. Initial cost for the stripper and eight row head just close to $719,236 list price. Individual stated he covered 150 acres in one day almost 300 bales of cotton.

Good point. I wish I could ask what he meant by a bale, but he died about 8 years ago at age 93.
