I know the family and have have bought livestock from them .
The parents are will be devastated, they lost their daughter ,
Brian's sister two years ago to cancer.
Why do people stick their hand or feet into something that
can maim or kill? This is 2014, not the 1940's before public
awareness campaigns .

How very sad. What a horrible way to go. I knew a man who got wrapped around and around a PTO shaft. When he didn't come home his wife went looking for him. The tractor was still running when she found him.

Sad, but proof that no matter how many shields you put on something, how many yellow stickers you plaster on something, or how many times you tell someone that something's dangerous, people still have to discover it for themselves every once in a while. The hard way.

Hopefully it hits home with people and reminds them to be more careful around equipment, but sadly to most people it happened to "the other guy" and won't ever happen to them because they "know what they're doing..."

Two years ago a local guy got pulled through his corn chopper, one of those things you ask why on earth were you at the business end of a lethal piece of equipment while it was running.

Bought a 500 Case diesel once that had the seat and rear part of the fenders beat up,they said the owner was bush hogging with it and the PTO shaft came loose from the bush hog and then beat the fellow to death as on those tractors the seat goes over the PTO shaft

Another one in East central Ohio into PTO lost his life yesterday also. Sad thing to happen but this close to the holidays it sure has to hit a family hard and really test there faith

I honestly can't think of a thing that scares me. Except PTOs, that is. I grind feed with a Farmall M. I get the willies every time I climb on and off of it with the PTO running. It happens multiple times each time I grind. I can't avoid it - either I reach over it to disengage it or I climb on the tractor. I try to remember all of the yelling my mother did at me when I was a kid. She was petrified of accidents on the farm. She had seen too many.

Where was the one in east central ohio? I usually read the Coshocton paper online and didn't see anything.

A real sad affair.

Btw, I just realized that you are on the Tractorbynet forum as I am. I am 300uguy over there.

The link took me to something totally unrelated to your topic. My son was involved with extricating a person from a silage chopper this fall. Very gory, very gruesome. Everyone involved with the extrication was shaken up. The word spread through our community pretty fast. Everyone was feeling sorrow for the family. I didn't hear one heartless word spoken about how dumb that person was. Jim

Around Zanesville, Adamsville area Herd it from a guy around New Concord while check gas pipelines then on the Raido, his last name Miller

I googled Zanesville, Ohio newspaper and read the article. Amish dairy farmer running a pto driven compressor at his barn got caught in the pto. Keith

Just received an update from two different sources with the same story so it's likely close to the facts.
Brian called his Father from the field and asked him to come to the harvest or right away because he had a situation. Brian then called 911. All this while he was jammed the header by one or both legs with the machine still running until he " stopped" being drawn in farther.
