Tecumseh 10hp availability

This weekend the 10hp tecumseh on my splitter went away. It's my understanding that they are out of business, but they still show up on e-bay as new units. Are these old stock?
I don't necessarily need a Tecumseh, but I would like to stay with something that has the same bolt pattern, so I don't have to modify my pump mount
I do move the splitter around with my D-14
Thanks
Pete

Surplus center has 64 of them but they are for generators. Great price and new. May not work for you but you can check shaft size and see for yourself.

Call small engine warehouse to see if they have a replacement engine. They will need the numbers off the fan shroud. Hal

Tecumseh and Onan are both out of business.

Surplus sales has brand-new, old-stock, 10 horse Tecumseh generator engines that you might be able to make work $139 each. Another place has them for $95.

If it was my machine, I'd stick a new Chinese engine on it from Harbor Freight. 8 or 13 horse. As to your pump mount -just check your's against the specs of any engine you buy. Most engines use a standard 3 5/8" bolt circle accessory mount.

I don't know if you really need a 10 horse rated engine. Your old flat-head Tecumseh has around 357 ccs. A smaller overhead-valve engine can match it's power. Like the 8 horse engine from Harbor Freight with 301 ccs. Their 13 horse engine has 420 ccs.

Go to Harbor Freight and see what motor you are interested in and after you click on the engine it will have the option of looking at the user manual..that will have a drawing of all the mounting measurements near the last page of the manual..I bought one several years ago and it has been a sweet engine.......even if you buy a Honda engine, they are made in China...see link

Thanks guys,
There's a Harbor Freight near where I work. Maybe I'll start there.
As usual, I have all my wood cut, but not split, and I'm too old for a splitting maul, so I have to go with what's quickest.

Depends what you call "in business." Onan small engines is gone. Cummins bought them out and dropped the support for Onan engines. Is there a company out there doing other services and using the Onan name - yes. Just like other names like Cub Cadet, Troy Built, McCulloch, etc. Also gone by my def but the brand names still exist.

Cummins owns the Onan name and still calls the RV units Onan. The larger units are called Cummins Power Generation. But I agree Onan in reality is no longer around.

I'm betting the bolt pattern to your Tecumseh engine is standard and you can find something else that will work better, longer and cheaper than a New Tecumseh. There is a company that bought the engine line from Tecumseh, IIRC they're using the Lauson name (a name used pre-Tecumseh) and have hooked up with the folks at LCT (Liquid Combustion Technologies) to supply new engines. Before I went Tecumseh I'd look at one of those Chinese Honda clone engines. Having dealt with Hondas, LCTs and B&S Inteks I can tell you those new OHV engines are stronger, quieter, use less fuel and are a lot less trouble prone. I still maintain there is a reason Tecumseh went out of business, if you mess around with them long enough you too can find out why. If you look at Northern Equipment you'll find engines, couplings and housings to bolt hydraulic pumps on engines, if you can match an engine to your pump you could probably match you pump to an engine.

Do you have a two-stage pump?
Recently, I've just done what you are contemplating. Replaced an old style B&S with one of the new HF 219 cu in clones on a 1-stage pump. The old Briggs was "rated" 5HP and the new clone "rated" 6.5 HP. Should be a breeze! Right?
Heh Heh Heh. WRONG!!!!
Notice, I didn't mention torque or RPM.
The old Briggs would lug thru the knurliest pieces but the new would not "lug" at all.
Check torque at 2800 RPM or so and you will find that old HH100 has probably got more "guts" and might be worth fixin'. Parts are out there.
With a 2-stage pump, on the other hand, the new engine probably will do the work, and although might be the same bolt pattern, but a different height.
