OT Want Ad Press

For Thanksgiving I was up to my sisters east of Albany NY and in a convenience store bought a few want ad mags like Big Ads etc. All full of antique tractors for sale. In New Jersey where I'm from there are no good want ad papers. Do you have a good want ad magazine in your area?

Want Ad Digest, though CL seems to be the popular choice, I have wondered what would become of the previous, they are across the road from me out side of Troy. I believe they have been publishing this since the early 60's, at some point they moved into the old butcher shop across the road and rented the other side out. I've found a few good things in that publication that was not on CL, so I check it often, some people are loyal customers.

Might as well tell the story, older gent, getting rid of some implements, did in fact have a few old tractors around. I bought a 1 bottom ford 110 plow (with all the options) from him and a ford subsoiler $125 & $100, the subsoiler appears to have never been used, if it was, I can't tell.

In the back was a JD LI, in yellow, stuck, he wanted more than I had on me, maybe $800 or so, saw it listed eventually, for $1200. Probably one of the best buys and discoveries, thought about it, but just could not tie up funds into something like that, but knew it had value, had some hydraulics on it, not sure if factory or aftermarket. Original tires with the tread bars that were connected. All that from an ad for a 1 bottom plow. He had a bunch of chainsaw mill stuff for sale too. Always more to the story or one should ask when going to look at something, you may be pleasantly surprised.

We have two.In our county we have the 'High Country Shopper'.Comes out weekly, about 20-30 pages. In most of western Colorado/eastern Utah,The 'Thrifty Nickel'.Just as big or bigger. Both are free.

There are a few things around but the thing is this. If it is still available long enough to make it to print, it is probably over priced. Even CL is full of tractors asking twice what they are worth.

We have a few near me for various stuff. Seems like the under 30 generation uses craigslist and other web sites.

Used to be a weekly paper called IWANNA. That was the regional ad paper for whatever you wanted to sell, buy, trade, rent, etc. Free ads, pay to buy the paper. Believe craigslist is putting a hurt on it.
