OT Yet another math problem

Lots of fun math and physics questions lately, I ask this math problem every few years. It's legitimate NO trick just because of all the chicken and a half stuff, still works out.

If it took (for example purposes) a chicken and a half a day and a half to lay an egg and a half, how long would it take 3 chickens to lay 3 eggs???

Or as my dad used to pose it, "If a hen and a half lays an egg and a half in a day and a half, how long would it take a rooster sittin' on a sawdust pile to hatch out a 2 X 4?"

Dad never really did take math riddles seriously. . .

(quoted from post at 14:05:10 11/24/14) I would say one day, although I really don't believe a half a chicken could lay much of anything!

I agree, one day, but now a half chicken in bbque sauce on the grill, now your talking.

(quoted from post at 13:57:36 11/24/14) 1 1/2 days

That would have my vote.

1 1/2 chickens lay 1 1/2 eggs. So 1 chicken lays 1 egg. The 1/2 chicken lays 1/2 egg.

At that rate it would take the 1/2 chicken 3 days to lay 1 egg. A second 1/2 chicken would also lay 1 egg in three days 2. So two 1/2 chickens would have 2 eggs in three days. Two 1/2 chickens should equal 1 chicken. That gives you 2 eggs in three days from one chicken or 1 1/2 days per egg.

1 chicken takes 1 1/2 days. All 3 chickens are laying eggs at the same time so each would lay 1 egg in 1 1/2 days. You get 3 eggs at the end of 1 1/2 days.

If 1.5 chickens take 1.5 days to lay 1.5 eggs
then 15 chicken would lay 15 eggs in 1.5 days
meaning each chicken lays 1 egg in 1.5 days
So 3 chickens will lay 3 eggs in 1.5 days
Time to get them some better feed and minerals or find some younger birds.

Fun huh???

Many nailed it, think about it like this.

If you have TWICE as many chickens, they can lay TWICE as many eggs IN THE SAME TIME, 1.5 days

Best wishes

I sure missed it. As others pointed out, it's one egg per chicken every day and a half.

As someone who has had possums get in the barn, I have seen a chicken and a half!

I also saw a rat snake dead with a glass egg stuck inside. If you stepped on it just right, the glass egg slipped, slipped, and then popped right out.

This is why I don't miss having chickens around... Or any animals, for that matter...

I never liked chickens so I sold them all when the folks were on a trip; that was the end of the chickens on the farm.

Looks likeum its going to be a long winter.
Sum of you all may not make it, try jigsaw puzzels of your favorite thractors.

if it takes a chicken and a half a day and a half to lay an egg and a half,
How long does it take a monkey with a wooden leg to kick the seeds out of a dill pickle?
