50's Car Quiz

Gotta admit it--I got 100%.

Does that make me knowledgeable on '50's cars or an ancient geezer?

I got 94%, and I've pumped gas in about all of them. For some reason, the 58's tripped me up - got 1 out of 4 right.

Nice quiz! Thanks!

Yeah , it was Fun ,,I had them all, cept I blew it LOl,,..was a little slow on the 57 Pontiac ,and Then got bogged down on the henry j and willys ,, rethought , changed to wrong answer and got me a 96 % ,nashes , hudsons , desotos were easy ,,love to find a red and white 57 Fireflite 4 dr htp like dad used to have .. if anyone knows of one e mail is open

I did the quiz and was going to be happy to report that I got 85%, ............... until I read the other responses.

Still good to knock some cobwebs out of the head. Thanks

Thanks Hoby, fun little game. I only got a 63%, BUT summer of '55 I was only 8 years old and NOT interested in cars.

I sure wish I had my first two cars back again. First was a 1954 Chevy 4-door Sedan with 3-speed on the Column (High School Graduation present from my parents); and the Second was a 1957 Ford Ranchero with a 312 Interceptor engine.

Got 'em all, but I was born in '48 and have been a car guy since I was old enough to know what they were. Got my first subscription to Hot Rod when I was 11. I was a little weak on the '55 Mopars, and the hood emblems- it helped that the Lincoln emblem was on a car painted that unique Lincoln shade of lavendar.

77% Chevys and Fords perfect, other brands not so good. I would do better on "56-65, wasn't really old enough for most of these, (born in '47) and once I became interested, they were OLD!!.

I got all green. 2 problems I guessed at and won the toss: Mercury in the 52-54 which year model. Hard call but made it other 2 years 51 and 55 were well known.

Chrysler and DeSoto really thought about this one and took my answers off the Desoto front end (couldn't see the hood ornament to use it which was a replica of DeSoto himself). As I recalled the DeSoto had all the fancy chrome and finishing touches and that won it for me.

Course for the most part I was of the age that cars were the thing and anybody who was anybody had to be able to sight recognize model and year. Working in a gas station some of those years, while not in school, for 50c/hr helped too.

Reminded me of the 56 and 57 Chevy gas tank access. First time I saw both models I couldn't figure out where they hid the filler. Don't remember the wherewithall but I do remember it was a challenge.

Was fun and thanks,
Mark

I aced it. The Chrysler products and the Willys/Henry J's were the hardest, as they look almost alike, but as a kid in the 60's, I prided myself on being able to identify cars. Today's generic turd-shaped pieces of plastic would be much more of a challenge.

I think what they called a Henry J was actually an Allstate, because every Henry J I ever saw had a vertical bar in the middle of the grill and a little divot cut into the hood, with a corresponding hump in the grill surround.

And the Mercs were 51, 52, 54 and 55- why no 53? I'm thinking it was virtually identical to the 52. And I sure never see many for sale. Maybe they kind of skipped that model year, and just sold leftover '52's.
