old farming pics, 60s and 70s

Been looking at some farming pictures my family took in the late 60's early 70's. Thought some on here would like to see them. First one is the tractors lined up at the end of the day's work. I don't know if they always did this or if it was just for a picture. Next is my great-uncle on the old Massey combine, and great-grandfather walking by.

Forgot to caption the other pictures. Obviously, the next one is loading the truck, then my Grandfather and a few of Mom's cousins scraping out the cow lots, then chopping corn. In the last picture- for a few years a few neighbors teamed up and rented a bunch of land in the area. They split the bills and the profits. This was a lunchtime picture. My family was all John Deere, so the IH's must have been the neighbors!

That is what it is all about. I love older farm pics too. Thank you for sharing these with us. I wish more people would post farm pics of days past.

WOW you were really up to date with all those new generations!

In the 60's dad and grandpa had a 1941 JD A, Massey Harris 44 special diesel, and a WD9.

When I saw that 1st picture, I thought there were some neighbors tractors in the line too, but grandad said it was all theirs. My Grandfather, 2 brothers, his father, and a brother-in-law, incorporated in the early 60s. One brother took an accounting class, one took an electricity class, another took a masonry class. They built a new milking parlor and cow lots themselves. From the stories I've heard, my great-grandfather, Chester, must have had a good head on his shoulders. Grandad said when he was little, they'd have to run into Wards, every night it seemed, for more milk cans because they were constantly growing the herd and filling the cans they had. One day, after they moved to the new barn, Grandad said Chester told him he was buying another 4020 (they had one already and maybe a 3020). Grandad didnt think they could do it, but his dad told him "we have cows to feed". There are slides in this pack of the bulk milk tank in the new barn overflowing. They got up to milking around 200. I dont know how many acres but I read an article Grandad was in back then where he said they had 700 acres of corn that year. Chester never had a Deere until they quit building 2cylinders. It's been all Deere ever since to this day.

I used three of those old Super 92 Masseys until the early nineties. Did a better job of cleaning grain than the John Deere I use now, just not as fast.

Very nice pictures! I agree with Alan K, if you have more post them. Always fun to look back at old pictures and see the "NEW" equipment from back in the day.

Washington county, Maryland. Late 60s to early 70s. Price Farms Inc., old neighbors of yours right? I'm Terry's grandson.

Is the front tractor in the first photo a side console 4020 or a 4320 with a narrow front end? The rear fenders look like those on many 4320s.

That is what I was thinking looking at them. A person is seeing "new" equipment lol. Wish I had taken pictures years ago, have a few of the farm and equipment but not a lot.

4320 with narrow front. Next one might be a 4520. They had one for a while but didn't like it. Everyone thought it was big and clumsy. Especially compared to the 4320s.

I was born in 1969 so these pictures are similar to what I remember too. I remember a lot of D-15s and "small" combines going across the fields. Neighbor sold AC, so most everything was orange in our area.

The first big tractor was a AC7080, then the other neighor got a Steiger. I thought those were the biggest tractors ever.

BTW, the 7080 is still in use as is the Steiger.

I always liked to drive by their farm when I was a little fellow because of all the big Deere tractors they had.I remember watching them go up the road one day with four 30 and 40 series tractors each with a six bottom IH plow while we plowing with a three bottom plow. They had quite the operation in their day with 5 20X60 silos.I wonder how many of the old Grove forage boxes they had as it seemed like they chopped corn for over a month each fall.My brother in law now owns the 4640 that your grandfather had.It was the biggest tractor in the county for quite a few years and I always liked to see it at the tractor pull at the Ag Expo.
