Why you need 2 tractors

Changed the oil on the Leland, Found I had a small fuel oil leak at the # 1 injector took the tube off could not find a problem so put it back on an tried to tighten it some more, no luck, mechanic says it must be a small crack. So change the oil on the Nuffield and go back to work. Couple of days later drive down to Blackstock, 2 hrs., each way to get a new feed line. Got it installed Then knocked the flex tubing off under the fuel tank so out to napa get new one. So to-day got the blade on the Nuffield, and have the Leland ready for the blower.

Don't tell our wives that you need just 2! I tell her the MM 900 is for plowing, the Ford 3600 is for snow blowing, the Cub for cornplanting, the 140 for cultivating and side dressing, the 4Star has the loader, the 97 and 705 are for plow day events, the Super A for snow plowing, the M5 is for chopping, then there's brush hogging which requires something else, maybe one of the A's or the B, or the WD, or one of the U's.

I have one tractor on the haybine, one on the baIer, one on the baIe wagon,(any one of the above 3 can be switched between the hay tooIs or be used for fieIdwork).
I have another 2 tractors with a Ioader, 1 is for feeding, the other one is a standby just in case no 1 has a fit. AII the above have a cab.
I have one more tractor that is open station,it too couId pitch in if need be... which never happened yet and i doubt it ever wiII:wink:

same here randy, and why is it that the tractor you need is the furthest back in the shed, and the tractor parked in front of that one has a dead battery????????????

I had that situation this morning, the dead battery thing. I moved the elevator with the 1550 yesterday, wanted to hook on to the grinder mixer this morning to fill the creep feeders and the battery gave out before it started. Had to use the 1365. It doesn't swing around as well backing up with the FWA and the loader on it. The 1850 was up in the field hooked to the picker,so that was out of the question.

Well,I had 17 cats here at one time. I don't know what we're down to now. That one yesterday wasn't the first one to expire this year.

At one time in my life I only had One tractor (1950 Allis chalmers model B). I was all right with that but than things got so busy I needed more tractors. I had up to eight but had leaned out two tractors. Had to get money from good old dad so I sold him two (1948 farmall cub and a 1951 farmall M). Now I have only four left in my backyard.Which are my Allis cahlmers B, 1956 John Deere 70 D, 65 case 440 U, 1971 I.H. skid steer loader. You never have enought tractors around to use.

I'm TRYING to get a second one. TO-30 still seems to be over heating. I'm pulling the thermostat tomorrow, but I have a feeling it's more like a head gasket. I got a ball park of a grand to fix. It sounds fairly simple, except for removing the gas tank and the exhaust. Probably definitely need a "heat wrench." BIL has all the tools to torque the bolts etc. to put it back together. On the other hand, professionals won't have parts left over or can spot other problems.

Yup we had eight at one time. Usually something wrong with about 4 of em most of the time. The guy we buy our TMR from has 14 and there are usually at least two of them lined up in front of the shop.

If it anything like it is around here somebody is always dropping a cat off because they don't want them anymore. Jeff started farming last year with one cat and her two kittens. We have 17 right now, and that's only because some of the drop offs were so stupid they got laid on by cows or run over, or just plain disappeared. haven't seen a mouse or rat on the place for months, though. Even the cottontail rabbits keep their distance.

I agree, with Curt. and Bison, that trading implements can be a pain, even with # pt hitch. A hard working man needs enough tractors, to have dedicated implements, ready to go! Can always explain it that way to SWMBO.

I pretty much agree with all the replies,
but I think everyone missed the basic reason:
a lone tractor gets lonely,
they're like herd animals,
they need company,
so always have at a minimum two,
otherwise , your only tractor will get lonely,
and maybe throw fits some days.

A backup is a must if you get buzy and rely on a tractor. This fall during Walnut harvest and hulling season, I had my JDB clutch bolt break, so it was dead in the water with no parts or time to fix. Then I used my 52 Farmall H but had to unhook the forks to pull the spreader. The JD Model H ground drive manure spreader used to scatter walnut hulls decided to shuck the unloader drive casting and I was stuck having to find another spreader to avoid shoveling a mountain of wet walnut hulls. I now have a spare spreader! So if your job relies on having a tractor, a spare is invaluable.

I don't like pulling draw bolts. During hay season the only one I pull is if I gather round bales, I unhook the rake from the loader tractor. Been thinking about converting the bale elevator from pto to electric motor so that would free up a tractor that I could leave on the rake.

Ya kinda need at least seven tractors. One on the discbine, one for the tedder, one to rake, one on the square baler, one on the round baler, one loader tractor, and one for all the odd jobs- the rotary mower, trim mower, shuttle wagons, etc. Thirty years ago, two tractors did all seven jobs; spent more time hooking and unhooking than eating.

Yes Bruce He alwas has what I need and will tell me how to fix it. Are you near there ?/Several people out co0mbining corn down there.

And here I thought that rule only applied to chainsaws. LOL. One that runs and two more getting fixed. I have you guys beat in the cat department at 18. I'm not bragging though, they did it themselves.

Hey ,, I RESEmble that statement !!,,. cept I have the makings for 25 tractors ,, rarely do I have 5 up to hop on and go condition ,, and there are 5 in serious , one of those wintertime fixable condition ..., all the rest will run with a little attention, carbs and fuel injector pumps ,,leaky fuel tank , ,tires and wheels , starter , water pump , ect, one thing or another sort of thing ..
