Finishing up Corn

Got the dryer fixed about noon today.

Down to about 3000 bushel in the field and 3000 bushel drying, had to move some of it to another bin.

At least my little Ford is getting a workout.

They are unless you need to switch sides, then you have to unhook tractor, swing over and hook back up.

That one is borrowed, there is another longer one with hydraulic drive on the swing auger. I think it is leaking oil inside because my hydraulics go down when I run it.

Can someone explain why it is necessary to dry corn. I thought it had to be dry to harvest. No one grows corn out where I live. Thanks Stan

It will germinate and then die in the bin when it warms up unless the corn is dry enough. That makes for a lot of rotten corn.

Drying in the field is feasible if you have a small crop and no contracts, but not for most farmers. You will also get a yield loss over the winter due to ears falling and animals foraging.
