Grandpa bought this it new in 48. It was sit up for a
school bus ( no roof or back part of cab. Dealer got
the parts to make a full cab and painted to match.

But it has the dreaded split rims!

What rims from what truck would be a good replacement?

Really need to know what wheel you have. Not all "split rims" are equal. Some are safe/legal.The split lock ring is fine. The two piece 'widow maker' is the bad one.A pic would help.

Delta Red

Sort of O/T but can you point us to some pictures or a site that has details.

We have a couple of flavours. A 1954 Ford 2 tonner (not in use) has a 2 piece wheel that lock about the centre of the wheel where you can't see what is going on.

A Toyota Landcruiser, a Mitsubisbi truck and an AC 45 grader have split outside lock rings.

Information welcome

Many of those had the 5 bolt Budd wheel (not all) go to a tire/truck shop and see what they can do. Seems a 22.5 was the modern size. BUT WHEN YOU GET A PRICE ON TIRES RIMS IT WILL BE MORE THAN TRUCK IS WORTH!!!

Yes like Deltared mentioned. If you have the split ring type wheels you'll be okay. But then if you have the split rim type I would discard them. Not many shops will attempt to repair the split rim type any more. Even the split ring type are far and few between now.

I know there is one half split rim and others are spit ring. The rims are 5 bolt. A friend of mine owns a trucking company so I may have a supply of tires. Also, I will have to buy tubes.

Yes, it will cost more then what its worth, but just to have a chance to drive it again would be priceless!

Check out delivery vans like ups, fedex, etc and also motorhomes. I've heard their are modern rims that fit older bolt patterns but they won't be the same tire size as yours.

I have no 'site' to go to.Just years of experience.Your old Ford truck has the 'widow maker' wheel. So it seems from your description. They are a two piece wheel. They have an inner half and a outer half. Joined in the center. That is the bad one.

if you know of a place that handles old military truck parts the old dodges and kaizers carried 5 lug rims with ring type rims
