was driving down the side road in PA ,I just had to stop and take a few pictures

That's a great view. New Idea picker I think.
Wonder if it will out live the tractor. LOL

Looks like a flat deck model. With position of the muffler and
the style of grill, it's most likely a 6600 or 7600, which were
available as flat decks in 1976 only.

The new Idea picker in your pic is a good corn pickin machine. Back in the day when I helped neighbors shell I planned on having a good day of shelling if the corn was picked with a New Idea picker. The corn was clean and easy to get out of the crib.

Yesterday morning I was Checking out some new land I just rented and there in the fence row with a tree growing through it was a New Idea picker I remember from the days it was bought new. I helped shell a lot of corn that was picked by that picker. My first reaction was anguish seeing this 'new' picker was in the fence row. Then I got to thinking about how long ago this picker was new, at least 45 years ago. Sheesh, where does the time go! In my neck of the woods the corn picker became a thing of the past long ago, replaced with huge combines. No more are the days of the neighborhood camaraderie we enjoyed when corn shelling time came around, and no more corn sheller meals served up by good old fashioned farm wives who really knew how to cook. And no more rushing to the shower to wash off the itch when we were done. LOL. I'm a little nostalgic tonight, can't you tell? LOL Jim

Gotta wonder if the guys in random pictures ever stumble upon themselves on the internet. You never know who's watching! As I've said before, I'm another nostalgic old timer who misses those corn picker days.

Very nice picture. I miss picking corn at times. Nothing like hearing the ears of corn drop in an empty wagon on a crisp morning. We had a Stanhoist wagon hoist so we always fought who got to let the wagon down....funny when I think of it now lol. Had to make sure to hold the tongue of the wagon up while you were doing it.

We were at the Delmont Apple Festival back in
October. Fort Allen Tractor Association is a BIG
part of the festival. One of the guys had what
appeared to be the same model of New Idea. He had
it functional and has a loooong way to go
restoring it. Can't wait to see it next year!
