Does anyone else have trouble getting a response
when you email someone on craigslist? I have good
luck until there is an email only deal then I never
hear back. Wtf

I've had this problem also and I give them my cell phone number in the email. I don't know what's up with some of these "for sale" adds that never answer back. I usually send an email the first few hours the item is has just been put on. Oh well, they snooze and they are the ones that lose.

I also have that trouble. If I need to respond to someone, I will tell them my name and where I am from and a phone number to contact me. I think this helps people to know that I am not a BS scammer (spammer?).

Some folks just don't answer, by phone or email. I think sometimes the person who posted the ad may have the Craigslist emails going into their Spam folder and not realize it. I only include email in my postings and I always reply unless it it a classic spam message that I am quite sure is fake, or a message that says "Is this item still for sale?"

Im leaving my phone number and my name and spout back what theyre selling. I don't know how to be more straight forward. The ones w a number seem to always work. Makes me wonder if my email doesn't work. Its a hard way to do business

Craigslist is a seller's market.

Probably the seller doesn't want to be bothered except on his own time. If it sells, the ad almost always stays up forever and you just never hear from him/her. I recall one seller that waited over a week to respond.

Then there was the one time a seller e-mailed me a cell phone number that was never on and could not leave messages. A week later the ad re-appeared with an extra $200 added on the price. I guess if he knew somebody wanted it, it must be worth more. . .

My computer won't let me respond to craigs list
emails, so, if there isn't a phone number, i can't
contact the seller. I put my number on my ads
because I don't check my email a lot. Also, emails
are more likely to be scammers. If you can't dial
my number, I probably won't be selling to you.

Large numbers of those emails go to spam folders. I ended up buying two sprayers this summer when the guy with the one I really wanted e-mailed me the day after I bought a smaller one at auction. Other emails are simply ignored by rude lazy sellers who refuse to take down ads for sold items.

To make it clear these are ones that say email only to reply. Can't exactly be my fault when I don't get a response. Are you selling or not? If I diddle around and email I must be serious enough. Be nice to get an answer be it yes or no and move on.

I respond to nothing but ads with phone numbers and when I sell I punch the "phone calls only" button. Have had absolutely ZERO problems since . I use home phone only and it's listed in any book along with address. Scammers do NOT want to talk to you on the phone! Most you couldn't understand anyway. Profiling??? Me?? Damn straight!

Craigslist is a well known phishing site.

I never respond to ads without a phone number.

I've had both good and no responses. Depends on the seller. One party had a big stack of skids for free when I inquired. He emailed me back that he had 25. Emailed a few minutes later to tell me he was down to 12. I don't get a lot off CL. It has to be a really good deal or close to home.

I had posted items on CL and I have requested emails only hoping to weed out anyone that is not serious. Several of the emails I received were over 2 weeks old. There is some kind of glitch in CL system.

Assuming you had something I was interested in and I am unable to hear does that mean you do not want to sell it to me. I can hear but have problems even if you are 5' away from me and facing me. Most calls I can hear nothing on so I don't even pick up the phone and let my wife check the answering machine when she gets home. She will call for me if she is around at reasonable time to make the call but when she gets home at 9:30 or later from work and has to be at work at 7:00 the next day when could she do the calling for me. You sound like someone that if you did have something I was interested and did make it to see it that meeting you I probably would just leave without buying.

I usually put something in the header like where I'm from so it stands out in the email list. I have a lot more luck calling though.

Like I replied to the other person. I could dial your number but then I could not hear if you answered because of hearing problems. So what good does it do to have a number to dial but not be able to talk to you when I do?

I have that problem all the time. Some of the stuff I even want to buy ! How dumb are these people listing something and not putting a phone number in there ? They must not really want to sell.
I did get a fellow to respond on a snow blower I wanted to buy a few years back. I ran right down and bought it.
I won't allow emails on my ads any more either as that is a sure way to get spamed. I put my phone number in and if they want it or want to work out a deal on the phone they call.

Lots of excuses to justify the sellers lack of info! We were taught in school to concentrate on providing information, "who, what, where , when , etc", when we were writing something or even when talking. The way I see it, in todays world there are a bunch of illiterate people out there. They simply don't know any better.

It's not so complicated as all that.

They don't answer because they are rude and/or stupid.

You guys that say they're all scams and all phishing... That's a LOT of work to go through for a few email addresses, worth maybe a few cents on the "black market." These are people that don't like to work, otherwise they would have legitimate jobs.

Besides, your email address is probably already on multiple lists being sold back and forth among spammers, and as such is worthless to collect yet again.

i've had the same issue and have seen the same thing other have below.

Sometimes i've seen people get very impatient. if it doesn't sell within a hour after posting they throw it away or haul it off for scrap.

McSale. they would also be upset if you don't reply to thier call/text/email within seconds.

In many cases, the item has already been sold and picked up. At that point, the seller ignores any pending emails, calls, or texts.
I sold a car on CL one time. Posted the ad at 7:00am and car was sold within a half hour. Phone was ringing and mailbox was filling up at noon.
I was decent enough to answer the emails and calls to tell the callers that the car was sold.

As a side note, I don't pay much attention to the "spammer" and "scammer" stuff. My email gets filled up with plenty of nonsense spam as it is. It is fairly well filtered into a "junk mail" folder and I usually take a quick look for anything that does not seem to be junk, and delete the whole mess. Not a big deal. Just a way of life in the electronic communications age.

That is your problem Leroy, there are answers out there for hearing problems, phones that print out plus volume control phones(phone co's offer help.) plus trying to get yourself fixed-helped.

I both buy and sell on Craigs list a good bit and while I make no claim to being an expert I can help some of you a little bit with your CL problems. As for unanswered replies, I sell on three accounts and three different emails on three servers and about 75% of the replies I get to my Craigs list ads through their reply service are caught by the spam blockers and set to the blocked emails file. Why part of them and not all or none I dont know but I have to check those folders before deleting them. If the sellers don't know this they are missing your replies. Sometimes I will place my email addy right in the ad and state do not reply through Craigs list yet you would be surprised how many people cant read or follow simple instructions. If the seller doesn't know this his is not seeing your replies.

Before anyone judges sellers too harshly I hope they would list a few things on CL themselves. The absolute stupidity of some of the replies is amazing. Also time wasters have certain traits that are quickly learned and if the sorting process causes the seller to lose a real buyer thats a problem too. Some replies will get your email deep sixed by most experienced sellers such as; Short emails with no introduction and not signing your name, ones that ask no questions but want cheapest price etc. I am no expert in the English language, writing it or speaking it but I often get emails like this;

Lowest price?

Thats it,two words, no name, no nutten. Send me one of these and you'll get no answer. If you want to be taken seriously at least take the time to say;
Hi,
I like your hay rake but the price is a bit high for me, are you firm?

Thank you,
Bubba

Just sayen the the problem goes both ways, bad sellers and time waster replies.

I buy and sell a lot on Craigslist. Many of you are just making excuses for rude, lazy, and inconsiderate people. Lots of legit buyers and sellers on CL. and because it is free.....lots of bums too!

Those phones that translate voice into words as far as I have found do not work with an answering machine or multiple phone setups. And the audoiloigest(?) said a few years ago DO NOT WAST YOUR MONEY ON HEARING AIDS>

I had the same problem Couldn't figure it out. I was clicking on the send e-mail link but never getting a response. Started to copy and paste e-mail address and problem solved.

Never had a problem. Last 2 items I bought I sent an email with the item in the subject line and my number in the text and got calls back right away.

I have one question for you ,Leroy , what would you do if we DIDN'T have craigslist or computers at all? You would be back to a buyers guide with phone numbers only. If I have to invite the whole world of scammers in by giving e-mail then I guess I will have to live with the consequences of possibly losing a sale. I'm sorry if I give you that impression but let me assure you my customers do not share your sentiment. Text is cold....conversation creates trust. I'm sorry you have impaired hearing...I , and many others , have our own impairments and I learned quite quickly that the world is not going to accommodate me , especially if there is risk involved , so I deal with what I've been given the best I can and I surely don't blame/judge them. Your text "you sound like someone......." just proves how little you will ever know about ones character by simply reading "cold" words. Conversation is how you know people. You have a good weekend, Leroy , and I'm sure we would be friends if we ever met. RB

I buy and sell quite often on Kijiji which is very similar to CL. I never ever post or give out my phone number, it's email only.

Never had a problem with scammers, my phone doesn't ring late at night with some dough head or drunk wanting to dicker and manure me about whatever is being bought or sold. Emails don't interrupt me when I'm busy and can be answered at my convenience. If, after a few emails back and forth, the person seems like he or she is serious I will give them my number if they ask.

I do reply to everyone I get and if I sell, the ad comes down.

Yes I do reply to ads and never get a responce back, lot's of times I have called the number in the ad and get an answering machine and leave a message and phone number and a time to call back and still don't get a response.

The world is full of stupid and lazy people.
