OT Any heat pump experts on here?

I've had a few problems with my heat pump over the past couple of years. I replaced the capacitor last year...it's one of those combination start/run caps. It was working fine...then it got cold outside and was time to turn the heat on. It worked for a day or two and quit running. The outside unit nor the inside unit are running. I can mash the switch inside the outside unit and it will run so there isn't anything locked up out there. I've checked all the fuses and breakers. Anybody have any other ideas or diagnosis tips? All help is appreciated.

cycle the power to the inside unit and it will reset
in about 5 minutes if every thing is ok.

you are not getting any 24volts outside to the contactor if you can manually mash them closed and start the unit. I would say the same is true for the indoor unit. you have a problem with the transformer or circuit board.

Sounds like a low voltage(24 volt) problem. Make sure panels on furnace are in place and tight, especially one you remove to chande filter. If you don't know which wires/connections are 24/120/240,set your meter to 250 or higher to prevent damage in the event a mistake is made. Start with transformer,24v out? No? Transformer is marked for primary, normaly 240v,do you have 240v? No? Check furnace breaker and/or power coming into furnace. Got 240 into transform but less than 20 out? Replace transformer. All is well with transform? Set t-stat for fan ON and examine/jiggle low volt wires at t-stat and furnace to see if one is loose/broke. That is about as far as a diyer can go on his own. You will need to call a tech or have someone go with you one step at a time.

On some of them they had a fuse 3 or 5 amp. On the board if
it's open. Check the control wire from house to outside unit.
Dogs or weed eater love them. Check for high or low pressure
manual reset R u getting voltage to the unit. Some had
door safty switches. See if you have 24 volts. Turn the
themostat to fan on does anything happeneds. If u do u have
24 volts. Some transformer have a built in breaker manual
reset on side of the transformer. If it's still blowing the fuse or
transformer. If everything else fails. Take auto motive stile
fuses and put in series with the load like 1/2 amp and I will
blow before the main fuses blow. Last resort
