Our electricity prices are going up 37% today.

now at 24.2 cents kw/h

That's only TWICE the national average. Not bad.

They had to shut down a coal fired plant because as we all know, coal is evil. It's being converted to use natural gas.

But, now we can't get enough natural gas here to make electricity.

Simple minded people like myself would have waited for some gas pipelines to be built before actually shutting down the coal plant, but I'm crazy like that.

The good news is that more of my tax money will be used to pay the electric bills of the increasing number of people who can't afford them. So at least we don't have to worry about that... I'll just work a little harder.

... yes I'm bitter.

Wondering if any other states are going through this kind of thing.

I want to see the Natural Gas distribution lines expanded in a big way. By that I mean get it out to the farmers for crop drying, barn and shop heating, as well as the home heating users. That would take some of the load off the already overloaded electrical grid (may even ease electric rates) and free up some propane stocks (farmers had to use propane to dry their crops last year) for the propane home heating people. Using some of our own Natural Gas instead of flaring or EXPORTING to Europe. Just My thoughts. bjr

Don't feel bad. I haven't really looked into it for my area, and my bill hasn't changed that much, thank goodness, so it hasn't hit us yet. Still, from what I read in the trade magazines, we've all get to look forward to pretty much the same thing, for the same reasons in the years to come. That is unless we get the current crop of politicians/crooks out and get in some actual businessmen that know how to make things run right and turn a profit instead of steadily losing money and draining our pockets to make up for it.

on't bet on it, Ameren UE bribed the Mo. legislature to allow an energy efficiency fee to be added as a help in recovering the lower bills of people that have upgraded their homes energy efficiency and now have lower electric bills.

I have often seen the infamous video and quote by our president (who waged the war on coal) when he seemed so proud to say something like "Under my plan electric rates will necessarily skyrocket" I think some of the militant vegetarians and tree huggers were actually applauding that geeeeeeeeeee give me a break..

But he's the same one who promised "If you like your plan you can keep your plan, if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor, and health care costs would drop something like $2500 per year for a family YEAH RIGHT and where are Lois Lerners IRS E Mails ???

That is one campaign promise that has been kept. Goodle "Electric rates will skyrocket under my plan." Poof. TDF

North Texas coop: 11c power+ 1 c power cost recovery, $15 per month meter charge. My last house bill was $110 for 771 kWH which I paid a couple of days ago.

They shop for the best rate and switch the sources accordingly. Power blinks now and then but computer is on a CyberPower battery inverter and doesn't see it.

You want to get me started? Last year I had my first $500 MONTHLY electric bill. Just for running the gas furnace. Health care? Lost my BCBS coverage the first couple months he was in office. Rates tripled in one month. Won't be long I won't be able to afford the carp insurance I have now. Rate incentives exist, but they are exclusive to those who participate in the exchange. In fact, unless they have recently changed the wording, incentives are only for those in STATE exchanges. Last I checked, less than half of all states actually had an exchange.

The price of the electricity wouldn't be so bad, but look at the distribution costs and the taxes........Uh, excuse me----FEES. Gotta get the terminology right, don't you know.

My supplier Ohio Edison is still around .13 KW last time I divided it out. When I first moved to where I am now (14 years ago) I was on Holmes Wayne they WERE around .06 KW but now they are up to where mine is at. Ohio Edison said there rates were that high because of paying for the nuclear power plant. I hope mine still says at what it is.

Current Michigan RESIDENTIAL rates (DTE) are about 12-13.25 cents/kwh depending upon volume, plus a service fee, IIRC. And I agree with others that it will probably get worse as the tree-hugger sponsored mandates kick in. If external_link and his Al Gore cohorts had their way, gas prices would not be so low, either. They must be FURIOUS that the American public is paying under $3/gallon. It amazes me how a party and their president can say they're for the common folk and do everything in their power to make life more expensive (health care, energy rates, etc) for the working guy. Of course, they insulate their constituencies (low wage, proverty stricken, unemployable, etc) with subsidies that, again, affect the average working guy more than the 1% they so detest.

North west Wisconsin. 11.2 cents/kwh for regular power and 6.9 cents/kwh for off peak. With all the surcharges, taxes and other BS, it averages out to 11.5 cents/kwh. This is a member owned cooperative.

You are right at .14 kWh, pretty much average, same as I pay in Michigan

I think 50% or more of the US electricity comes from coal. Yep, epa won, we lost bigger than most think. Everything is this country is connected to electricity and cheap energy. Coal is gone, natural gas will fill the gap for a while. There goes the price of natural and everything connected to it, including fertilizer.

Cover your ears, there will be another large sucking sound as move jobs leave this country.

$0.126 per, plus state tax. Not bad I think. Plus they put in stuff pretty reasonable. I had a new pasture well about two years ago, replacing an old windmill/shot well, went electric. They put in up to 1/4 mile of new poles, meter, and breaker box for $600 + $25(coop member fee if not a member). Also with that you have annual billing, 5 years minimum, and it's around $195 per whole year minimum (you get that much electricity). After that it's however much you use. Over 1/4 mile of line was a reasonable rate per foot but I forget, also I think 8 year with a minimum of $300ish a year, but don't quote me on that part as I was under and didn't pay much attention to the over 1/4 mile cost.

With all the extra charges like Storm Restoration Charge; Fuel Adjustment; Federal Mandated EAC Rider; my bill is 0.0850 per kwh.

We are on nuclear power.
We send all the expensive natural gas up north;
And watch a mile long train loaded with nothing but coal pass daily going south to the port to be loaded on ships going overseas.

Hey Mike M. I'm not far from you in Navarre. I have Ohio Edison and locked in my rate early last year at .056/kwh basic rate for 15 mos. With all the charges & taxes it comes to about .094/kwh.

I live within 1 mile of 6 30 inch natural gas pipelines and still I cannot get natural gas at my home.

Check world wide rates on wikipedia and such. The more green energy the higher the electrical price. Lots of smoke and mirrors on price too. My last bill was 79% the lowest time of use rate of 7.7 cents per Kw. Average price of my power after surcharges etc was 19 cents per kw.
