is this a case 300 or 400?

Hi, looking to buy this tractor, the owner doesn't know the model or doesn't has the serial number. He says it's a 1958. I tought it was a case 300 but he says someone came to look at it and said it was a 400. I looked on the web for picture but cannot identify it for sure... thanks for your help

Well to start with, it is either a 1956 or 57 Case 300 round nose--310 to be exact, as it has flanged rear axles and an I beam front axle. The 400 of those years was a much bigger tractor, and the new 1958 400B would have had the square nose with headlight mounted there, and a torque converter driven tranny.

thanks a lot. Should this tractor have live pto? I plan on using a snowblower that comes with it. The seller couldn't answer the question. thanks again

It did not have a live pto as per say, but if there is a long lever on the LH side comeing back towards your knee as you sit in the seat, it is a hand clutck which disingages the trans, allowing you to stop tire rotation. There were 3 tranny options. 1 straight 4spd., no constant pto, 2 mechanical shuttle, no constant pto, and 3 tripple range with constant pto.
