(another) awesome woodsplitter - built from an implement?

forgot to mention that I would sure like to have straight wood to split like they always show in these videos!
Seems like our trees were swiss-cheese full of knots... We always carried a sledgehammer (or maul) with us - to dislodge the hunks from the wedge when they bound up.

I don't know how "easy" it would be but it would be fun trying. I saw that video a while back. There is a couple times it nearly gets him. It's a cool machine. Best operated by prior amputees with prosthetics already installed.

Looks like a lot of wrestling and lots of short pieces. I like my wood to burn a little longer. Looks like a good kindling maker.

Would make great wood fired oven/stove firewood, but I'd sure as heck would not be in any kind of hurry using that one ! Sure OSHA would just cringe at the sight of it ! LOL !

However, and its probably best left unsaid, but like a lot of dangerous equipment, take your time, stay focused at all times and work carefully, may never be an issue, its just that one time.... and thats why I'd probably not be using anything like that ! I'll stay with the 15 second or whatever it is cycle time on the Huskee 28 ton. Even with those, you have to be careful of any distraction, this is a little too quick for comfort.

There's that flywheel one too, they all seem to work fine with the wood they have. I like the common homeowner type, not for high production, but will split just about anything you put through it and take a finger if you are careless, so maybe its just a matter of preference.

It would look a lot better to me if he had a mechanical way to feed that thing without having fingers and thumbs so close to harms way. One bad move and... oh boy!

Watching that makes me want to wave my arms all over and say DANGER WILL ROBINSON DANGER WILL ROBINSON.

That just about takes the cake as to being the most dangerous piece of equipment to run.

Looks safer than the one I found on Youtube made out of a JD baler. He welded a plate on the plunger and put a wedge on the front. Thing was wailing away on the 540 pto and he was dropping in wood and running. Just scared the poop out of me watching.

Well at least this is a little better then those big rotating
wheels with a wedge welded to it that Ive seen on YouTube.
They are a lot faster!!!

How come I never have prefect wood like that. Hedge makes my 20 ton splitter moan and groan.
