Awesome wood Splitter

Hi ,

I've noticed that some people on here have been talking about firewood for winter and wood splitters . I know that it's that time of year to be thinking of this chore . Here's a link to an awesome wood splitter , expensive , but awesome . What do you think of it ?

Awesome Wood Splitter

A year or two ago, there was a link here showing in action a splitter on a Bobcat loader that would pick up a log, a chain saw driven by hydraulics would cut the log to lengths, and a ram would push the log through a 4 way splitter.

ya - looks nice but -- every piece has to be cut perfect or they will buckle and come out where they shoudnt -- i dont cut so straight I would have to run em thru one at a time -- one push and all them pieces -- time saver but to many little pieces -- my pieces are pretty all the same size - cant imagine what it cost to build that thing -- good old fashion thinking went into that -- my hats off to the thinker -- Plow Boy Roy

Like to see him try a burr oak or other hard hardwood with out straight grain in it.

I've got one I built using a 65HP Wisconsin, a 30 GPM pump pushing 3000 psi, and a 6 inch cylinder. The only thing it hasn't gone through is a piece of gnarly oak that was nearly 2 feet in diameter. In that case it actually bent the wedge. That said, for the 'normal' stuff I've got a 6 way wedge that I use. I can usually split around a months worth of wood in the matter of an hour or two, right by myself..

That all said, this thing makes mine look like a hand maul..........I agree, it might not go through any really gnarly stuff, but for the usual stuff it looks just plain awesome.

I agree . I sure would hate to have to pick up all those little pieces of kindling. Those blocks would be just right if split in two.

My version of that would have a conveyor to move the split wood into a truck or trailer. I'm not sure that machine would work well in all situations, but for clear wood it does a pretty fair job.

I saw a video of a 6-way splitter on a Bobcat that I think worked faster than this unit.

For some reason I love watching firewood processing equipment on youtube. I've seen one mounted on the front of a skidsteer that allowed you to scoop up a log cut it to length and split the cut pieces dropping the split wood in a truck--all while sitting in your skidsteer.

My favorite was even put to music titled "it's automatic". Someone ran a loader loading the logs onto a chain conveyer. The machine had no operator. The logs moved into the machine, got cut to length, split, trash sorted out and finally conveyed to a truck completely automatically.

Wood's too round and neat with no limbs. Too much little kindling and split too small for me. Maybe ok for the little bundles at the quick stop.

This looks useful for all the small diameter wood. We have a lot of that around here, nice as you work at a comfortable height, easy enough to pick up the smaller diameter wood and as he has it set on the log splitter, you could push a cart or what have you under it. Saw this once before, I have pile of that size wood in the driveway right now, it would work great for this. Lot of interesting things are built to deal with firewood. Surprised he posted all about it in detail, he should patent the thing if possible, that would sell or so it would seem.

I've got wood that would bring that thing to its knees. Plud how would like to try to get a knotty crotch out of that ring after it got stuck
