I got a 1965 hough 65 loader with a cummins motor, driving yesterday, and it stopped moving like someone shifted into neutral, checked and drive from torque to trans not turning, check oil level and drained out torque oil looked like it had metal in it. could torque converter blown up? checked pump on converter and it pumped oil from trans to filter. any thing else it could be. cold this morning and it tried to move when warm I can stop drive shaft in neutral with my hand. thanks

Likely the sprag clutch that controls the stator has let go. This is an over running clutch that functions similar to the old Farmall Torque Amplifier over running clutch, free wheel one direction, locked up the other.

The stator redirects the vortex flow in the convertor vessel so that it hits the turbine element in the right direction for torque multiplication. Free wheel come into effect when the impeller and turbine are whizzing around at a 1-1 ratio. (High speed and at low load)

Just a guess that the stator is not locking up......

does anyone have an exploded view of sprag and torque converter, the book I have doesn't show a sprag clutch. I checked pressures and they are 160 psi torque converter is full, thanks.
