Plowing with the old iron.

Dad and I dug a few tractors out of the shed and some plows out of the line and turned over some soil. The ground was pretty heavy but turned nice after getting a scour on the bottoms.

Here's a shot of the Massey Harris mounted plow getting close to the right set-up. Still getting some soil up on the land and about two inches shallow still. After about an hour it started to take a shine and pulled pretty nice.

Thanks so much for posting the pictures.

I grew up with IH, worked at two IH Dealerships, one Case/IH Dealership, and one Massey Ferguson Dealership.

So now you see why I enjoyed those pictures so much. Only thing better is if I could have been there !

I'm getting old when a Super 90 is an antique tractor. lol
A neighbor had one. He always pulled 5x14s semi mounted with his.

It was perfect weather for the activities. Upper 40's in the morning, mid 60's by noon. We had 5 different tractors out and 4 plows. It was nice to give them a workout, get them greased up and the oils changed.

Yes, the soil was pretty sticky. Heavy black and clay in some spots, gravelly on the hill tops. The gravelly areas helped to scour off the clay.

I give you credit if you had to scour that many plows today. Last year I never got anything done with our 4 bottom plow so it's RUSTY this year. If it stays this wet I'll be scrapping the mud of after every pass...

Only thing in my favor might be one field is sod.

We plowed some sod for a neighbor several years ago. Reclaiming set aside land. Some of it turned so nice. Perfect parallel folds. Some areas were rooted up so bad it would tear loose in chunks and the plow would ride along on a big slab of soil and roots. We had to disk that first and run the colters deep.
