Seed Question

I am tired of dealing with the local Pioneer rep. and want to look at Dekalb.

Anyone had experience?

I can remember when Dad planted some Pioneer, and some DeKalb. Then DeKalb kind of disappeared. Now they are making a serious come back against Pioneer here, in the shelled corn market. I had a little last year, and it yielded right with the best Pioneer.

DeKalb is not bad. I have had real good luck with Channel Seed the last few years. It has out yielded my Pioneer and DeKalb.

Pioneer has been going down hill the last 15 years. Ever since they sold the genetics just aren't there like they used to be.

I was 100% Pioneer from about 1983 until 2000. I got burnt real bad on a Pioneer number that would not stand. Had 500 acres go flat, and I do mean flat.

Pioneer is getting like a lot of JD collectors that think their poo does not stink. The local Pioneer dealers all have NEW BUILDINGS and bins. Plus drive in with 50K pickups. I have chose to do little business with them.

Tired of the dealer or Pioneer seed.

If just the dealer go by Pioneer from another dealer.

There's a guy up here that thinks DeKalb is so great he had his new John Deere combine wrapped in a huge vinyl DeKalb logo.

Our farm has some Dekalb planted on it every year. Our corn harvest is not underway yet. The Dekalb looks like it will out yield the other brands. It is a top producer every year here but we have had some timely rains and are looking at probable record yields in corn and beans. Seems certain brands of corn get a reputation in certain local areas and Dekalb has some very good numbers that do well here. It has earned a reputation as a top yielder here (Ind.)

David,

If you are taking corn for grain crop, and not silage; DeKalb is an excellent seed. Years and years ago, DeKalb had a lot of problems around here with dry down, but, the newest are dominating feed trials around here. I am switching over to almost all DeKalb next year, with just a few test fields of Schlessman's grain maker. The guys around me who planted it last year, said they had some varieties out-yield their dekalb and FS by 30-40 bushels in similar conditions. Now, I got to do the same, myself, just to see.
