ROLLERS IN FILTER CASING

I HAVE A IH 1066 CHANGED THE HYDRO FILTER FOR THE FIRST TIME,AND FOUND 7 WHAT LOOKED LIKE TAPPERED ROLLERS OUT OF A BEARING IN FILTER CASE,TRACTOR WORKS FINE AND MAKES NO NOISE,WOUNDERING IF IT IS A PROBLAM OR TRACTOR MAY HAVE BEEN WORKED ON BEFORE AND THEY WERE NEVER REMOVED.

I think you already know the answer... either scenario is possible.

I don't envy you. I HATE situations like that... you don't hardly dare keep running it, and it may take just about a total teardown of the transmission/rearend to look for a problem that MAY have already been repaired! Or not.

ALREADY TOOK WHEELS OFF AND CHECKED AXEL BEARINGS AND REMOVED THE BRAKES AND CHECKED THOSE BEARINGS,ALL LOOKED GOOD,OLD FILTER DIDN'T HAVE ANY METAL IN IT,BROKE PTO SHAFT A MONTH AGO REPAIRED AND USED SEVERAL TIME SINCE,DON'T THINK THAT WOULD HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT, YOU THINK.

Had that happen with my 1256.When I changed the
hydralic pump,I found several 'parts' on the
bottom.Seems a previous mechanic didnt clean up his
'mess'.

Depending on the size of the rollers, what I have seen happen is inner axle bearing shells out. Some one pulls axle housing, replaces bearings, but doing it out in the field or some not so nice place, doesn't bother to check the center housing for bearing pieces. I was busy as heck one fall, guy talks me into changing transmission , final drive oil on a 66 or 86 series tractor. I start draining and pieces come falling out. I tell him I just do not have time to repair it. He says nothing about a bearing that was replaced last year and has it hauled to a different shop. I later find out that was the guy who replaced the axle bearings last year .
