Another broken tractor repaired...

The sun gear thrust washer nibbled away at the shaft, weakening it to the point it broke when the customer got it into a heavy pull in a muddy area.

The second and third photos are of the new shaft ready to be installed.

Was the new planetary assembly hard to find? About how much did parts cost(do not have to answer this one if you do not want to)?

We used to break those shafts in ours too until we added more fluid to the tires. You had to be careful to if you got into heavy ground where the tractor wanted to power hop you had to lift the implement quick or you'd risk being down to a two wheel drive tractor!

The planetary assembly was undamaged. The axle shaft cost some $600 from FIAT. (The customer wanted a new one, rather than searching parts yards.)

I forgot how small those older 4wd tractors were.

When you look at a new quad track or even just the new rubber tire stieger built NH or CIH tractors, they are just massive compared to the older ones. Then again, my 2015 F250 is 10,000 gvwr. So, everything these days is getting bigger and heavier.
