Little McCormick Hydro

My neighbor bought a little McCormick hydro. I am helping him to service it. The tractor is 6 years old with 560 hours on it.

The manual called out a service regiment that has not been followed.

I know engine oil was changed last fall and it looked pretty good.

The hydraulic filters were supposed to be changed at 200 hours, the fluid was supposed to be changed at 400 hours. It did not smell super, and was a little dark. We changed both of those tonight. There was also more metal on the magnets than I would like to see.

There were several grease zerks that would not take, down to 2 now.

Will change the antifreeze and put in new thermostat next.

Good luck with that one. I have seen too many well intentioned fluid changes done just before a failure. Not sure if the change triggers it or if it was just too late for service when it was done. Metal in the fluid is not a good sign either. Hope you have better luck than some.

I too am concerned, but glad it is not my tractor. The hydraulics were a little jerky when it was cold, seem better now. I remember JD Seller talking about replacing a hydraulic pump on one, do not know how many hours were on that one.

that would be built by LS ? same as the Montana and Landini.
change the gear oil in the front end while you are at it.
