I have a skid plate issue on my old Fort 25 mower...looking for someone that may have some experience with this mower...can you help?

If you need parts, Google Sweet Farm equipment in Kentucky. They can help you out. I can't remember the model but I've got a Fort mower that has cut less than 1000 acres and it now occupies a place in the fence row until it gets to the scrap yard. I also have a NH 236 that looks a lot like the Fort mower and it has cut little more than 1000 acres. The discs are worn out as well as all the skid plates. No more economy models for me.

Sweets in KY will help you Disagree with other poster there a good mower for a small farm.

I have a Long Model 2084, which is a relabeled Fort 25-5, so I have been told. We had metal cut and reinforced the skid plates on it. What is up with your mower?

I keep mine now mainly as a spare after fixing up an old Vicon.

Thanks Garry. Picked up my used Fort F 25-5 a few years ago. Think its a terrific machine. First skid plate (next to shoe) has been spot welded to the shoe and the cutterbar. There is also a 3/4" gap between the first and second skid plates which has got me scratching my head. Strip of metal fills gap and is welded to first skid plate. All this is good except the skid plate has developed some play because the skid plate metal that bolts to the cutterbar on one side of the skid plate has disintegrated. Thinking I would like to replace the skid plate but worried that new part won't fit. Trying to make sure I can make necessary repairs before I start cutting these spot welds. Does all this sound familiar?

Thanks Jocco. Yea, I'm with you on the mower comment. Picked up my old Fort F 25-5 used a few years ago ... its been around the block a few times but I think it was a well-built piece of machinery. I'm happy to have it after mowing with a sickle bar for many years.

My farm is pretty rocky on the hillside and sandy on the river so a disc mower has to take some abuse. These mowers are a lot better than a sickle and may be fine for just a few acres. I typically cut about 400 acres a year which is really not much, the blade discs have holes worn in them and the skid plates are worn thin. There are other mowers out there that hold up much better and are really not that much more expensive.
