Hunting Blinds

My 12 year old wants to build a "big bale" hunting blind. I had put him off because they looked like a PIA to cover with anything that looked like hay without spending an arm and a leg. Then I found this stuff:

http://www.homedepot.com/p/8-ft-x-112-5-ft-Polypropylene-Single-Net-Straw-Erosion-Control-Blanket-17681-1-1125/204268230?cm_mmc=shopping-_-googleads-_-pla-_-204268230&ci_sku=204268230&ci_gpa=pla&ci_src=17588969&gclid=CJjNy6n9n8ECFYZzMgoduFYA5g

Any experience with these types of erosion control blankets? About 1/8 the cost of the anything else I've found. As big as it is I could recover it every couple years without spending any more money.

the fiber will rot away and just leave you with the netting. i would think it would work fine for a blind .

i also ment to say thats a great idea for a cover to make it look like a bale blind. Ill have to remember that one.. From your name i guessing you are from Kansas. I will heading that way to do some Quail hunting November 18th for a few days with a couple friends. I have never been there so im pretty excited. heard alot of good stuff though. i wish i was going to be Deer hunting

Not much quail in my area (near Manhattan). As a kid I remember flocks of quail along 36 highway - but that was when a lot more milo was being planted and not so much corn. I guess western Kansas is the place to hunt quail now.

He wants the blind(s) for turkey and deer.

I'll take quail over deer any day. What an absolute blast--no pun intended. Nothing as exciting as the covey rise. I released some birds I raised from day-old at about five weeks. They acted just like wild quail and I had great dog training until the big snow came.

one of the best blinds i have seen is an old combine that died in the field and barely made it to the waterway -- they stood in the grain tank -- what a hoot-- good luck with a bale--Roy

I live only about 40 miles north of you. when you mentioned manhatten and 36 highway, that kinda got my attention. thought maybe you might even be closer.

My dad and I always talked about taking an old timey, antique hay knife and cutting a hole down in the center of an actual bale of hay. I crawled down inbetween some bales that were line up in a row once.

A real bale is "real" and probably cheaper, and think of the insulation value.
