Another scrap iron pile starting

This will be the third iron pile being collected. At least every time they are getting smaller. I am about ready to call the company to bring in a bin. I don't know what iron is bringing now. I am just trying to clean up the place. I am not cutting it anymore it is just too much trouble, and with the price of gas I doubt it will pay anyway. What is iron going for in your area? Stan

That is a Allis Chalmers Model M Narrow gauge. Probably late 30's. The other one is a Orchard Model. Around the same year. Stan

The wheel in the lower left looks like five hole implement, could be used on a feed wagon, the posts could make a fence, the pipes could make hog gates and the angle iron could be used for, well, something. Thirty years ago I would have used up a pile like that. Today it would go to the scrap yard. Funny how our priorities change through the years. Jim

I see an awful lot of square and rectangular tubing, along with pipe and angle iron, that I wouldn"t scrap out......beats buying new for a buck a pound....that"s $2000 per ton.

You got all kinds of goodies in the background. Here short iron is $12, cast is $11, whole tractors $10 (have never taken any in but that's what they tell me), shredder tin is 9.50 or something like that.

What ever happened with that IH power unit?

I would call out the good stuff and send just junk.

My last trip I got $180 for what you have.

I'd pull most of that metal out and put it on a metal rack to use.Wish I was near you I'd top the price you're getting for scrap.Advertise it on CL for bids you'll be ahead and who ever gets it will be too.

That's all well and good guys, but if you're up to your eyeballs in scrap steel, and you're never going to use it, what's the point in keeping it?

If he advertises on craigslist all he is going to get are scrappers offering to cart it away for free, or at best a seriously lowball offer.

Nobody who really wants to use the iron is going to pay a fair price for it. Everybody wants something for nothing.

me too chief, I need to make some feeders for the horses, and I see almost everything I need in that pile

Stan , see where that one rusty piece is ,well I need that little piece right behind it . Could you save that for me please? Thats it ,No not that one , no , the rusty piece , no , the other one , not that one , no

I have saved a lot good good iron. what you see in the pile is very rusted, or bent. I doubt I will ever use the saved iron, but just couldn't send it to china. Stan

(quoted from post at 05:22:01 10/06/14) Dang I wish that pile was in my yard! Not much scrap in that pile if your a welder. Lol
have to agree.
Don't look like scrap to me either.

Stan:

Are you scrapping out those "Alice" M's ?

Reason I ask, is I have a '37 M project tractor.

Doc

I am not scrapping those two. I have just about anything you need for the M's, except for starters. I have scrapped several, and have more for parts. Stan

As I am sure Stan knows, the AC M was a heck of a good tractor. High performance and good economy. The Model M replaced the horse on many farms in this hilly grain country.

Unless you need the money, I would let it sit there. No interest on CDs. The way its going might be hard to get it out of the bank anyway. A lot of people think a military conflict is coming. If so scrap will only go up. Rumor is Turkey is going to start buying big time again. I am just pushing my piles up with the loader.

Can somebody zoom in on the upper right corner to the left of the bull dozer track and the round fender looking chunk of metal?? It looks like a head/face to me there or is my poor eyesight!?
