took a break from tractors and working on a 54 hudson car--one of the spark plugs came out real tuff -- no threads left on plug or the hole -- what threads are they? need to run a tap in there to clean-up the threads thank you in advance! Roy

They would be 14 or 18MM. Spark plugs have had metric threads since the 1930s. Measure your other plugs and then you will know what tap you need.

"should" being the key word.

I was desperate for an 18mm last weekend, tried all the area car parts places, nobody carried them.

Found an 18mm chaser, but not really what I needed.

Surprised me that nobody had one. 14mm yes, 18 no.

Had to put my project on hold and order a tap online.

What model is your Hudson.
Some one said that the Hudsons built after the merger with Nash were rebadged Nashs.
What engine do you hive in it?

1954 was the last year of the "real" Hudsons- Hudson merged with Nash, and the 55-57 models were indeed re-badged Nashes. In '55 they used 308 Hornet engines (as well as Hudson Jet engines in the short wheelbase Wasp models- 202 cubic inches with automatic transmission and air conditioning made for a pretty anemic combination). As they ran out of Hudson engines, they used Packard V8s and AMC V8s.

The re-badged Nashes were looked down upon for many years, and were referred to as "Hashes" by the Hudson faithful. But folks began realizing about 20 years ago that they were really pretty good cars, so they are much better accepted these days.

I have never owned a Hudson, but have been interested in them for a long time.
I have owned a Rambler American, and a Rambler Classic.
Wish that I wood have gathered up a lot of the independents back in the day when they could be bought real cheap. I remember Kaisers,Studebakers,Nashes and others, and a lot of them in running order could be bought for $50.00 and up.

That 308 Twin H ,is a real nice engine. I always hoped that someday I could own one. Heard that a guy that owned one, took it down for a state smog test and it passed....stock.
Good luck and enjoy, try not to get any speeding tickets.
