Ot Home Defense

Also 2 large pooches, multiple firearms of multiple varieties. Along with a spouse that shoots quickly and as accurately as I...

Moat full of alligators lol. All sorts of stuff, chairs, ball bats, pistol, dog, lamps, etc. Hopefully never need it, although with all the thieving going on here lately it could come to that.

Live in a house that looks like white trash, junk all around, pair of size 12 workboots on the steps and a dog food bowl that holds about 20lbs of dog food.

Keep a automatic transmission on the porch and an old washing machine.

Crooks will figure you aint got nothing worth stealing, and plus figure you are too onery to mess with.

Redneck security.

two grouchy 100 lb lab mixes and a Stainless steel riot pump 12ga with 3" magnum alternating #4 buck and #9, it's my house and my family,I will protect them, you don't belong here

3 families that use the same driveway so there is always someone coming or going and a half Catahoula half Pit bull that would just as soon eat you alive as look as you.

Why the #9? It'll just burn em good. You can't go wrong with the #4 buck 100%. As a matter of fact, I have never seen lighter than #8 around here, and that is a light trap load.

I want something high brass, max load. I have seen some good turkey loads. Buffered, copper plated. Even some duplex, combination of #2 and #4. It is not legal in Mo. though cause we cannot use anything heavier than #4 for turkey.

The 12 gauge is the best home defense weapon known to mankind.

Mile long drive way and signs that say thing like if you can read this your in range. Or If you are found here after dark you will be found in tomorrow. Plus a Pit bull as a house dog and well many fire arms including my 410 with flash light gun sight. If the light shines on it you got the shot. Missouri any more has the castle law which state you can shoot first and ask later after dark

I had the first option for many years. He used to love hanging out behind the landscape bushes at night, had him set up to be cozy, for a short hair and warm climate dog, this guy amazed me when he'd be out in the winter, was a nice dry padded area under an eave, but.. Like a sentry, nothing got past him at night, he had a small door to get in and out, purely voluntary. It does give you peace of mind at night while sleeping, 'cept for when its deer all the time LOL ! Friend of my fathers had these for years, several on their place, which was large, for horses, you don't want to be a stranger there and be out at night, nocturnal or what I don't know.

I find the 500 mossberg a viable accompaniment for this purpose, with some reasonable alterations even better, the all around grab from the hiding spot common shotgun. I think the intimidation effect on an intruder, of facing a shotgun barrel is a strong one, and compliments ones violence of action if by some long shot one ever actually is put in that situation, a shotgun gets it done in close quarters.

Lets see, there are two Chihuahuas to get them at the ankle level, and a lab to get them at crotch level. Anything above that and they can be assured that they will catch the pointy end of at least one caliber of bullet we have on hand.

Beyond that, since I work on construction equipment, I have keys that fit a lot of BIG machines that can dig DEEP holes......Now that's S, S, and S to the extreme......LOL

I just depend on the good nature of my fellow man and the forebearance of poisonous reptiles. (Beyond that, if I told you the rest of the story, you would have to enter the Witness Protection Program!)

I have an Auto 5 and a 1911. Plus a sign on the front door that says.

I am a white disabled vet. Living on disability. So not much in here worth taking.
Plus a very cranky dog.

I have asked my cop buds and a retired Navy Seal they both say Shot gun...

In a gun fight the winner is determined fast normally in a shot are two...

Speeking of the Chihuahuas. I believe pound for pound is the meanest dog on the planet. LOL ,Just think if a Chihuahua was the size of a german shepard Gezz Christ you have to throw the food to it and run to feed it.

I don't know about his area but it is where I live and I have a farm in a outlying Surburban area
that you would think is a nice quiet area. But home invasions and car jackings are heard about frequently both have happened in the last year within 3 miles of my home drugs seem to be the underlying cause and now we apparently had a Serial Killer around.I have a gate up with large dogs turned out at night and plenty of firepower if needed.

That is a good lookin dog. I have had 2 Cats, neither one had a mean bone in their body, until you messed with me, my kids, or the house.
Way back when, I was running a row crop sprayer. Got back to the plant right at dark, and had run a stop sign a half mile away. I knew I had, but I also knew that if I didn't stop, I could make it off the highway before any cars caught up with me. Long story, but the lights that were coming, was a deputy sheriff. He stopped me just as I was turning into the plant. My old Cat was at work, and made to sheriff get back in his car. I beat the ticket too.

A .357 handy but also a Mossberg 500 12ga (the "Chevy" of shotguns) on a different level. Prefer the 12 gauge because the business end is so big and scary there's a good chance you won't need to use it. Wife wasn't too keen on the idea (way back when) until there was a home invasion nearby with a shoot out and swarms of state police (and some kind of paramilitary group) trampling through the property and neighborhood searching all night. Now she's a believer.

Sad to say, yes there are too many meth heads in
country. They don't work, steal for a living, break
in homes. 12g works for me.

Alarm system. Every door and window is hooked up (even the upstairs windows). Loud sirens inside attic mounted at the gable vents. (so thief can't see/disable them but sound will exit easily). Live in a subdivision with lots of houses within earshot of the sirens. 2 dogs (GSPs) who bark and lunge at anyone who is at the door or a window. Police are called on unfamiliar or suspicious people walking around the neighborhood. Been there close to 30 years and the crime reports are VERY low. Most homes have alarm systems so biggest threat is kids going through unlocked cars or garages.

I have a couple of ChowChow's who keep the rif raf at bay if the dogs domt get the bad guys a mossberg 500 and some 00 buck will show them the error of their ways!

1911,Mossberg 500, and S&W M&P15

I live on the outskirts of Houston Tx. So YES it's dang near the
Wild Wild west. Fortunately I haven't had much problems. We
just hear about it on the news.

One time I had a group of 4 illegals going through my antique
Farmall parts inventory. I called the Sheriff and went to put a
stop to it. It was all no comprende and there demeanor started
to get rough until I exposed a cocked and locked 1911 on my
hip. Sheriff showed up about then and that was the end of it.

I was born and raised in rural Iowa. Back in the day keys
where left in the vehicles and doors left open on cool days
wether we were home or not. I don't remember ever locking
anything. We had a 22 rifle and a 12 gauge shotgun.

Same area now has problems with drug addicts and theft is
common. Everything is now locked up and family is armed all
the time, as am I.

I think reality is beginning to set in.The local big store now has tear gas an tasers for sale. Might be something to add to personal collection.

Pretty much every place around has multiple guns. Some people lock doors, some don't. Houses are miles apart, if a burglar did show up and a person was gone, they could get in anyway, only choice would be solid metal building with no windows, and even then they'd just use a torch or something. Other than that I'm usually around home, I find the sight of me is often enough to scare off people. I was walking across the pasture once, someone driving down the road saw me and went into the ditch (that's why they said). I figure if I can do that to a person just driving down the road from a 1/4 mile away, don't have to worry much about burglars.

If a person has a good size dog on the place, I always wondered about putting up two signs... One that says "Beware of Dog" then another one that says...."Not that dog....the other one.." ;)

At my parents they have this guy. I recently moved into an apartment and it has 3 locked doors till they can get in but just incase I sleep with my 9 in my nightstand and this 12 gauge under the bed. When I was in college someone tried to break into my truck and I had my 9 ready but the guy got away when my alarm went off. Needless to say myself and all my roommates were always locked and loaded. We had someone try and break down our door one night. We went outside and saw him standing there. When he saw there was 3 big guys he quickly ran away and we told his friends to make sure he never stepped within 100 feet of our place.

hat there alone(in bold) would get one here in Canada mandatory 10 years in the pen without parole, the thugs would just get a hug and a kiss and a free meal and a night sleep in protective custody.

(quoted from post at 21:41:27 10/02/14) What do you use for home defense. I have 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks and an auto load 12 gauge.

I got a gallon spray jug of Home Defense a few weeks ago at lowes. Worked great on spiders.

A big picture of my mother-in-law mounted to a stake stuck in the front lawn.

Went to work and forgot I put it out there, and when I got home and saw it, I got back into my truck drove off and still never went back. Works great.

An acquaintance of mine had a sign posted in his auto repair shop. "This place is protected by Smith & Wesson and a Pit Bull with aids." Another had a sign behind the cash register in his restaurant,"This establishment is protected by a pit bull, and three nights a week by a man with a 12 ga. pump. You guess which three nights."

(quoted from post at 11:26:43 10/03/14) Don't blame me that your backyard is a crime zone.
It looks as though crime is alive and well in your backyard also,....

TORONTO — A Markham, Ont., firefighter has died after being viciously stabbed in the head at a downtown Toronto cafe over the weekend.

Dominic Parker, 45, was stabbed several times while he was at the Rotana Cafe in the Danforth-Coxwell Aves. area around 2 a.m. Saturday.

Michaels said he couldn’t understand why anyone would want to hurt one of his best friends.

The attacker “was out to hurt somebody and it just happened to be my friend,” he said. “He was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Excerpted from The Toronto Star: Dominic Parker was kind, funny and a “real Toronto guy.”

When the 45-year-old Markham firefighter called his family to say goodnight on Friday, it was the last time.

Only hours later, police say, Parker was stabbed in the head without provocation while sitting in a Middle Eastern restaurant near Coxwell and Danforth Aves.

Nabil Huruy, 23, of Toronto, appeared in court Sunday facing charges of attempted murder, carrying a dangerous weapon and two counts of carrying a concealed weapon.

Those charges have since been upgraded to first-degree murder. A second court appearance is still being scheduled.

Excerpted from CBC: Nabil Huruy, the man charged in the stabbing death of a Markham, Ont., firefighter made his second court appearance today.

The 23-year-old appeared briefly at a downtown courtroom this morning, keeping his head down as he stood in the prisoner’s dock. He remains in custody.
Huruy is accused of attacking Dominic Parker “without provocation” at an east-end cafe earlier this week.
He is charged with first-degree murder.

The stabbing occurred at the Rotana Café at 1530 Danforth Ave. near Coxwell, shortly after 1 a.m. ET on Saturday.

Police said the 45-year-old firefighter had ridden his bike to the café and had stopped in for a tea. He was sitting when he was attacked.

Parker was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, and died Monday.

He leaves behind a wife and two teenage daughters. His funeral is scheduled for Friday.
