hi
Got to do some engine work this winter.Checking the manual ,bad pics and lack of info.I need to know if I can pull the rear main bearing cap without disturbing the rear main seal?
thanks charlie

The rear main is a standard lip style seal. The bore that it is seated in is half in the block and half in the main cap. In you are looking at replacing the main bearing without splitting the tractor you can try just dropping the main bearing cap and reinstalling it. If the seal is still in good shape you may get by. On the other hand the seal probably has been in the engine as long as the bearings so there is a chance that it will leak after you are done.

There are also two rubber plugs that are installed between the block and the main cap. You nee a couple of guide pins to locate the rear main when installing and then the plugs are pushed into the holes where the guide pins are used.
