John Deere Running Gear

Stopped and looked at an old JD running gear. I have a 963 and it appears older than that. It has a 4-5 inch round toungue. Replacement? Anyone know types of gear before the 953 and 963? thanks

I had a 952 but it looked just like a 953 except for the hubcaps. The 952 had the same extended hubcaps with JD on the end as the 953 but the 952 hubcaps were mushroom shaped where they screwed into the hub. I have a John Deere "Buggies and Wagons" booklet and it shows an 802 gear with a round tongue but the 802 had spoked steel wheels, 28" front and 32" rear. There is also a 902 gear which may have had a round tongue and it had rubber tires with 18" rims.

That 902 had 17" rims and the way the rim bolted to the hub was 5 pieces of angle iron welded inside the rim and the hub is that big. that is on the later 902 the earlier the rim was clamped on with set screws. I have the later style. Also the complete axle was cast.
