Prime Mover Skid Loader

Yesterday as I was driving, I ran across a
Prime Mover L925 skid loader for sale on the
side of the highway. It appears to be in good
shape, but does not have an engine in it. The
gentleman who is selling the loader came over
and said he bought the machine new, and has
used it since the late 70’s or early 80’s.
Everything worked well on the machine but as he
was using it last the engine locked up on him.
He took it to a local mechanic who told him
the engine was shot. It had a 25 horse Onan in
it. He is not sure what he wants for the
machine, or how much it is worth. Does anyone
have an experience with these? I have never
been around this brand of skid loader. Any
ideas of what engines would swap in to it?
What kind of value it would have? Thanks to
any ideas/information.

I have a prime l1200 . Good machine, pretty much off the shelf parts. Sundstrand pump, trw ross drive motors. Mine has a 3 cyl isuzu diesel in it.

Opened my email if you need any further. I did find the operators manual on line, i have a parts manual too. I think the parts manual is on line too.

You can easily replace the Onan motor with another brand of engine. That would not be real hard as long as you have the drive off the old motor.

The thing I would asked myself is if this loader is worth the effort and money to you. It is only rated at 900 lbs. lift capacity. That beats a shovel but not by much.

Unless you need a smaller machine for tight places I would keep looking. The older, smaller, gas powered, skid steers do not sell for that much money. Most buyers want newer, diesel and bigger.
