Case Nutty 1660- Case LA

Seeing as how you are a Case man, figured you might be able to answer a question for me. I have a toy tractor collection of Ertl tractors and haven't been able to find a model of the old Case LA tractor. They have a model Case D, Case 500 and a Case 600. From looking at pictures of the real tractors the only difference I really see between these models is the placement of the battery and the air filter. My question is- Which of the three Ertl models would come closest to representing the real Case LA? The Case 500 has the battery in the right place but the air filter is the big canister type. The Case D has the right air filter assembly but the battery is located right in front of the steering wheel. The Case 600 has the battery in the right place but has the canister air filter. I collect model tractors of every one I have ever driven and this is the only model that is giving me fits on getting the right one. I drove the original one for a neighbor over by Carlile back in the sixties but can't remember what it looked like. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

I have one that a guy up in Alberta made about 20 years ago; CaseIH made him quit making them shortly after that.
Red Wagon Antiques in Jackson, MN had one made by Lyle Dingman for $425.00. Their phone number is (507) 847-4679.

Yes, I know, I had bought a few toys from him previously and never had any problem with him. I decided he was the only one that had them so I called him one day about one. He made some excuse and said he would call me back the next day. Didn't hear from him for about two weeks so I called him again. You should have heard him howl. Oh! he couldn't sell me one because he would have to ship it. I told him, No problem, I planned on paying the freight. Oh No! He couldn't ship one because it was too fragile and might break. I told him to just pack it well and it would make it. Then he told me he didn't have any more to sell. I just gave up on him. I see he must have a good supply of them because he keeps advertising them on his site. There are a lot of other toy stores that are happy to do business with me. Thanks for the reply.

My grandfather and uncles farmed with LA's, I have seen a few up close, but never drove one. In my opinion the 500 looks the closest, problem is it is a diesel and has two more cynders. The d engine looks similar to the LA but the body doesn't resemble the LA. If it were me I would get a 500 cut an inch out of the middle of the tractor hood and engine and then jb weld back together, I think it would look real close to an LA that way. Ertl also made an L, if you could modify a hood from a 500 or 600 (shorten it) onto the L chassis that might be another option.

You missed out then, they were a neat old tractor to drive. You ever get a chance to drive one, go for it. I just looked at the pictures that Case Nutty 1660 posted of the one they just loaded on the trailer. Got a clear view of the right side and it looks close enough to the Case Model D that it will work for my collection. Thanks.
