OT Kohler 18HP Command Engine

I just got done rebuilding my Kohler 18hp Command engine. It has solid pushrods to the rocker arms and it seems like when it's running no oil is getting to the valve train. Am I missing something here? Any help is appreciated!

I ran into that with a single cylinder Command.
That is the way the new pushrods come. kohler expects enough oil vapor to get up there to lubricate the rocker arms and valves.

Briggs and Stratton builds a lot of engines with no oil passage in the pushrods too.

I think you will be o.k. with the new pushrods.

After thinking about it I guess the oil comes thru the hydraulic lifters and fills the push rod galley and overflows into the head.

I assume it's a vertical shaft engine.

I dismantled a command recently and payed particular attention to the parts as I dismantled it. In thinking about that subject it seemed to me that a horizontal cylinder configuration doesn't benefit from pushrod fed oiling like a vertical cylinder would due to the effects of gravity.

On the splashing comment, makes sense that being horizontal the splashed oil could just run down the rod to the lifter.

Mine had 300+ hours and did show some wear marks on the push rod guides at the top of the OHV casting, under the valve cover. Didn't seem to be hurting anything and were just surface scratches.

My 2c,
Mark
