Does Dark choclate and bananas really lower blood pressure? If so, how much of each?

Does anything else work besides meds?

thanks
George

Bananas are a source of Potassium = helps control blood pressure. The jury is still out on chocolate. I use both and (at 68) my BP is well within bounds. I smoke and drink (often too many) beer. It mostly depends on individual metabolism, oddly enough, it varies dramatically. Google Blood Pressure , there is about a Gillion answers.

Dark chocolate, does have anti-oxidants, just have to limit reasonably how much you consume, bananas are a good source of potassium as has been said, I don't know about the BP reduction, I'd research it. Personally, I keep dark chocolate in the fridge, 70% cacao, more is a little too bitter, but better for you, couple of squares as a treat after lunch or dinner.

I just ate one of those giant Hersheys dark chocolate bars yesterday. Should be good on BP for the next month :)

I think watching fox news gives me high bp because they tell the world whats going on in this government.

I know a Veterinarian who has cinnamon with his oatmeal every morning. He claims the cinnamon is good for lowering blood pressure.

I don't know about HBP, but cinnamon has been shown to help with insulin availability in Type 2 Diabetes. It helps the insulin through cell walls I think.

Seen the subject header and remembered there be cookies and cream ice cream in freezer so got a bowl FULL and opened post. That was a mistake LOL
Eating it any ways :p
Oh yea, I'm no help with your question. Sorry

You really want to lower the BP George? Lose weight. Atkins worked for me. Eat all you want of meat, eggs and cheese. Dropped 60 lbs in 4-5 months IIRC. BP way down, cholesterol too.

There are good foods out there, but there aren't any magical ones.

The best thing is a balanced diet full of the good foods.

DARK chocolate - the real kind - is good for you, and so aren"t bananas. But all fruits and vegetables are good for you.

Lots of water is good for you too.

Basically - the closer your food is to its natural state - the better off you"ll be.

Anything processed, even slightly, has "other stuff" added to it (or has the good parts removed from it) - that"s what gets most americans into trouble diet wise.

Combine a good natural diet with regular exercise/activity - and most people won"t have to worry much about things like high blood pressure.

The theory is simple, but hard to live. Real food can be expensive. And it"s hard to say no to a bag of potato chips, soda, salt, white bread, cookies, sugar in coffee, etc, etc,

Hard to undo the damage a lifetime of eating the #$#$ so many of us were raised on - but on the other hand, it's never too late to change. There are benefits to changing your diet no matter how late in the game it may be. Reducing blood pressure (or at least not INCREASING it) is just one of them.

The only drawback to bananas is the glycemic value is a bit high for diabetics.

For non-diabetics, bananas are not a problem.

I'm 65, 5'11" and weigh 185. Not diabetic, not in
front of a TV, work all the time. I eat healthy. Dr
thinks I should be on BP meds. I've been keeping
records of BP and sugar levels. I don't agree with
Dr. Both my sugar is good and my resting BP is
very good.
