still creeped out by low flying passenger aircraft thirteen years after the fact? Had a movie on this AM and there was a shot of an airliner flying low at the "right" angle. Suddenly occurred to me what the date was. I don't think I will ever feel comfortable with that image again.

I was home sick that day. I woke up and flipped the TV on just as the second plane hit. As it went by the camera, I knew something wasn't quite right. At that point, we all knew what we thought was a terrible accident was no accident.

It was also one of the last days my mother was alive. I can't forget how 9/11 terrified her.

I was already at work. One of the consultants came in and asked me to set up the tv. Her husband had called and said there was something going on in NY.

We got the tv going and watched in horror. Office mgr was out that day, but called and closed the office at 10:00. We were closed the next day, too.

I can remember everything that went on in the office so clearly.

Unfortunately, I think there is worse coming.

I was a home daycare provider back then. The kids were playing happily in the living room and I was sipping a cup of coffee.

The news of the first hit broke. I thought, what a tragic accident.

Watched in horror as the second plane flew right into the other building. I just silently cried... the toddlers kept playing, oblivious to it all.

It made me want to go to school and pick up our older two from elementary school. I didn't - but I wanted too.

WE SHOULD NEVER FORGET!
And like Nancy, I am convinced worse will come. It's a matter of "when" - not "if".

My wife called me at work, and told me. We were released early that day. Worst day I can remember for this country.

A couple weeks later, I took a long planned trip to Florida to visit the folks. The plane going down had 4 passengers on it. The pilot came out, sat and talked to us during the flight. He said the government was basically paying all the fuel bills, otherwise all the carriers would have simply closed up. The terminal had more security people than passengers.

I was renovating a house in Alexandria, VA that day and didn't have a TV or radio on. I went to take the floor sander back and getting near the rental store which overlooked the Potomoc valley, I could see smoke pouring from the Pentagon. Turned on radio and found out what was happening. Drove to the wife's office compound at Fort Belvoir to get her out of there. Went up to her office and no one was there or anywhere and finally found her in the basement along with everyone else. Told her we were out of here and took her home. Not one check point stopped me getting on a secure compound. I guess everyone was in total shock and security was forgotten. Never forget the sight of the Pentagon burning.

I had been custom baleing hay that early morning. When I went to the house to collect/settle up,the woman came to the door in tears.I spent the next two hours sitting on her couch watching the TV in total disbelief. And I agree, there is more to come.......Not IF but WHEN.

The weather was spectacular here that week. We were building a grain bin. The wife came to the house for a snack and hollered out that one of the towers had collapsed. I said no way- buildings have been hit by airplanes before, building damage is usually minor.

That evening two fighter jets went screaming over at low level. Turned out that a local flight instructor near here either didn't, or didn't want to get the message that EVERYTHING was grounded. I guess he flew all day, and may have gotten away with it if he had quit at dark. The jets had scrambled out of Syracuse, and were headed southwest right over us. I remember seeing the red glow of the exhaust. He was so low it was like I was looking right into the tailpipe.

I had been helping a neighbor on a very long, complete rebuild of a Piper Cub. He had planned a big party for the finale. I don't remember what the schedule issue was, but when he just had a little time left, flight restrictions were lifted, and we had a big party!

My sister inlaw flew from montana to Colorado the day after the restrictions were lifted. She was the only passenger.Said it was kind of "creepy"

I will never forget that day, I was on the phone in the shop with my tire supplier and he had a tv on and said a plane had just hit one of the towers, didn't know anything more till later in the day. I live just west of Mpls. and with no aircraft in the air for 3 days after it was way too quiet. No one knew at the time what else was going to happen.

Yes, the indelible image and sound of a low altitude jet passenger plane, passing directly overhead creeps me out to this day, and I live under a flight pattern. For many years I constantly had bad dreams, it was always planes and aircraft crashing and I figured out it was my subconscious picking up on the same sound, at night, which was what I heard and saw that morning, immediately followed by the sound of it crashing into WTC 1. 15 minutes later, it happens again, from the south.

The below link is the view we had of this tragic event, while at a new building construction site, which is seen through the arch about 4-5 photos down, blue personnel hoist which I rode in daily, it was the new NYU Student Center (Helen & Martin Kimmel Center) There was a Manitowoc crawler crane on a timber mat on the street, the jib is in one of the photos steel was not far from being topped off, followed by limestone cladding. I was close by in '93, at the Woolworth building when the truck bomb went off. These things never leave you, knowing there are those out there that will commit such crimes against humanity.

When WTC one opens, I will visit the observation deck, like I did on the previous one so many times before, something I must do.
Washington Square Park view of WTC

It was a tuesday if I remember correctly. I was at a county kitchen food distribution center. I had to run over to the local Radio Shack for a part and saw it on their TV. Compamy I worked for let us go home early. I had a very good video camera at the time , Sony VX 2000 in the truck so I got on the Grden state parkway and headed north. About half the way up the shore you could see a LOOOONG smoke trail just off shore that was kind of a gray white color. I know Staten Island pretty well and thought I go up to where the ferry boats come into. No way; every brige was closed and so I couldn't. Stopped at the Penny pack exit. Very good over look of Manhatten from about 18 miles away. I took video and still pictures from there but that was as close as I could get. All I could think is "this is history happening" and three days of no aircraft was creepy. Just like a home movie of the Pearl harbor attack. This a true shame that the idiots in our government and many other euopean governments do not learn that they are dealing with rabbid dogs of beings and you can not be mister nice guy. I fear we will never see an end to this . Jeffcat

I know where I was that day and what I was doing.
The thought that came to my mind was that the people killed would probably get more respect than the 52 million people killed in WW2. I guess that is what happened.

I was here at home waiting to head to work. Remember driving down 81 near Syracuse Hancock airport and seeing fighter jets just off the tarmac traveling much faster than normally over residentual areas and like another said could see flames from exhaust. Looked and sounded like just short of afterburners.
Was very somber at work that day.

As soon as we heard it at work I thought back to the first WTC bombing, I just knew it was not an accident. The bosses wife brought down a TV the the shop and we watched the coverage off and on the rest of the day. One strange view was no contrails in the skies, and military choppers flying so low I could see the faces of the crews. Later we found out they were watching the river dams and brides.

On that day I was the new guy in the shop , and the boss was a horrible man who formerly ran a business that primarily employed ex-con's. He treated us badly too as was his habit . One of the senior mechanics had a mini TV in his locker , and he set it up so the 8 of us could gather around his bench to watch the horrible scene at the bombing . This boss came down stairs and told us all to get back to work and turn off the TV . the guy did for 5 min , but as soon as the boss was back up stairs it was back on . 10 min later he's coming down again . This time he gives ME a big lecture on wasting time and sends me home ! I'm laughing inside , now I can relax and see whats happening at home on my TV , with no hassles ! The other guys just ignored the boss and kept watching ....

I'm kinda the odd duck here. I heard about the first plane on my way to Willmar MN on the radio. Right after I got to Willmar I saw the 2nd one hit on TV. Most of the people around me were in shock, some were crying. I'm standing there talking about terrorism, cause and effect and the different types of terrorist.

In 1985 terrorist set off a car bomb in the BX parking lot at Rein Main Air Base in Germany. 3 days later I picked up my wife and kids at the air base. Terrorist activity in Europe was pretty high at the time. The threat was so high that the Army put out that we could grow our hair slightly longer than regs normally allowed so as to allow us to blend in with the civilian population. That day I went and got a high and tight flat top. I wasn't going to cave in.

My actual reaction to 9/11 was pure evil anger. I wanted someone to pay for it in blood.

Looking back I would have loved to have seen the look on Bin Laden's face as he was fleeing Afghanistan and when he realized that his action caused us to invade not one but 2 countries. I don't think he really thought we would react like that.

Morning meeting of IT at work, programmer came in and said a news report had a "plane hit a building" in New York city, no big concern since he didn"t know what size plane or the building- implication was a small plane had crashed somewhere maybe near airport while trying to land or on takeoff as has happened locally over the years. 15 minutes later programmer came back in and said a second plane- a big one- was crashed into big building, news reports now showing incident and the company TV in break room was switching to the news feeds, the IT support group was supposed to get all the TVs in conference rooms, break rooms to same news channel/CNN instead of HR news and company training internal channel. Watched the replay and heard news commenters say it was skyjacking, multiple planes grabbed, panic time! 1st thought was "wouldn"t have happened if the Israeli security drill from 10-20 years back was in place- dumb(actual word stronger) nnalert". Company kept working with longer breaks, factory floor breaks of 1/2 hour every 2 hours instead of 15 minutes at 3 hours, night shift shipping and packing crew was 1/2 shift decided by management. The reservists got a noon meeting at breakroom to get status check, see if they were getting call up- couple of medical reservists said their unit was going to have a muster the next morning for possible duty- they were absent the day after. Air guard people made their contacts and were told situation fluid(read as confused/SNAFU) and meetings for a couple of specialists next day with duty callup likely-and they were for next day. Armored units not called up, they were at work next week, just the extra weekend drill to get vehicles ready. Orders processed count dropped next couple days, I got some calls on night shift to pass on to HR about people not coming in because of callus, got some info from them about the situation- as noted SNAFU in political side, Military operations side responding as trained, no real short term confusion as to duty but some supply issues. Youngest brother was still in service then, had some interesting experiences later. RN .

My FD assisted FDNY for the next three days till they got reorganized. I couldn't go as i was on the local county emergency management team---and none of us knew what was coming next--thank God that nothing did!

Photo credits and or copyright are shown, not mine, but I stumbled across one of these on the net at some point in the past, and having spent years in that area working on 2 new NYU buildings, being an alumni of NYU, it hit home that someone had captured these events which all of us on that job saw.

When the second plane hit the WTC everyone at where I worked flooded into the conference room to watch. I remember leaving an hour early to pickup my son from daycare. I also believe that with all the hatred toward the USA there will be another attack. I think 2,800 died that day, it could have been much worse.

Hello,

It was an historic event. I put in a video tape in the vcr and have many hours recorded. I may have 2. I guess I can put them on a disk as to keep them longer.

Guido.

I was just having breakfast and my wife turned on the tv to watch the weather forecast when the news flash came on screen, when she then switched channels to the news when the second plane just hit the tower.
I still can't believe people can be so evil as to do a thing like that.

In my area i only see the odd plane flying over high in the sky, so high i never even hear them.
One day a number years ago we were just having breakfast when we heard a noise approaching like there was a freight train coming and then out of nowhere appeared two jets one hot on the tail of the other and flying so low as to barely avoiding the tree tops straight over my house and dissapearing in the distance, everything was rattling and shaking when the sound barrier hit us 2 sec later.
Till this day I haven't a clue where they came from and where they were headed ....but it sure scared the daylight out of us.

I have to agree with the exception that they have been other attacks. Minor in comparison, except for the victims, wasn't minor to them at all. The attacks that scare me are the low keyed ones like forcing their faith and beliefs on us and judges siding with them. Unlike the terrorism in Europe in the 70's and 80's, were most of them were pro communism who were not willing to die for their cause the ones we have to deal with today believe they are doing God's work and that if they die they will be rewarded. The first you can negotiate with, the others, it's their way or death.

To this day, the scariest thing that I have experienced was a fighter jet passing low over my head when I had no reason to expect it. I had just gotten out of my car. I remember clutching my chest and collapsing against the car next to mine before sliding down to the ground. Couldn't breathe for several seconds. Sounds kind of silly now but if you think so then you have never had it happen. We don't have to shoot at anyone. Just make them think we will.

To the west of my house is a little country airport were they fly single engine puddle jumpers out of. 20 miles south is the airport in Lansing Mi. Large planes are always flying over as the circle in for a landing.

The eeriest part of 9-11 was the days following when there were NO planes in the sky. Much too quiet.

I worked a company with sales reps nationwide. Several months after this I was at a meeting with a coworker from Boston. He was traveling that day. He was either 1 or 2 gates down from one of those flights.

According to him during the flight all the passengers knew something was wrong. All the flight attendants went to the front of the plane. If someone paged, two attendants went to them. He stated before they landed they had fighter escorts. When they landed they were parked on the Tarmac. They had armed guards around them. Their luggage was unloaded on the Tarmac, they identified it then it was searched.

This is just some of what he has told.

I was on my way to work and turned on the radio to a comedy morning talk show. Their tone immediately let me know something was wrong. A few minutes later the second one hit. I was working at a museum in downtown Indy at the time. When I got there everyone was watching the coverage. At about 11:30am they shut the museum down for fear of any other attacks that might try to be played out at public venues. The gas station across the way jacked their gas prices up to $5 a gallon and the line was around the block. I had enough gas so I drove home to the north side and just listened to the radio, waiting to hear more. There was so little information. No one knew how far reaching it was. The streets were empty, aside from the lines at gas stations and convenience stores.

I was building a log cabin in the NY Catskill mountians on a hillside with a good view to the east toward the hudson valley, we probably could have seen those planes had we known. We were listening to the radio and thought small plane when first one hit, couldn't believe it when the second hit and more details came to light. Its a shame no one knew or could prevent it. I hope we don"t let our guard down in the future.

Around here low flying planes are usually crop dusters or the national guard on training flights.

9/11/01 at 5AM I was shin deep in manure in the gutter of my barn. By 1:00PM 9/12/01 I was standing shin deep in debris in front of the Bull on Wall St, NYC. I can still taste the dust and smell the smell. I'm not likely to ever forget.

Funny, 13 years after the fact, I got a thing from NYC (8 hours south of me) wanting to know all my hours and location from 9/12/01 till we left in the following March I think. Like anyone records and keeps that information! Seems some 9/11 workers have respiratory issues they think are related to working near the site. Nice of them to ask, but come on guys! You should have been asking for this stuff 10 years or more ago.

Lets also not forget it's the 2nd anniversary of the US leaving it's people to die at the hands of terrorists in Benghazi. I suppose some say, "What difference could it make now?!!" like our former Sec State, but I think most people get why it matters- a lot!

I came home from work, event was on TV and my babies were in their high chairs for lunch. I had several people on the road, told them to keep the rental cars. Hertz was ------, but I got them all home.

I was working in the warehouse along I75 north of Dayton Ohio. SOmeone said a plane had flown into the WTC, and a second one hit the other, they thought it was someone trying to get pictures. Someone had a small TV set up in the receiveing area that we swung by and checked what was going on from time to time.

Our concern at one point was a couple of "missing" planes, and Wright-Patterson is just a couple miles from there. Looking back it wasn't that big a target for them, except for the air force museum and collection of former Air Force 1 planes.

That evening I was at the chiropractors office, a plane flew over, when the sonic boom hit, I swear the wall I was leaning my head against moved about 4 inches.

Several gas stations got in trouble west along I70. They put signs out "last gas before Indianapolis" and charged near $10 a gallon. Didn't really notice the lack of planes.

A few years later someone got an idea, they checked the average temperature for those few days without any contrails. Those 3 days were a couple degrees above average. Contrails reflect that much light/heat from the sun back into space.

A neighbor was spraying his wheat fields, when he came over the trees at the end of the field he really put a scare in my cousin and grandma.
