Made a mixture of automatic trans oil and diesel fuel and squirted in each cylinder, after about four days it broke loose. Turned it over several times during the next few days. tried to start it and it fired a couple of times and stuck solid. Tried to turn the engine backward but wouldn't budge. Took the head off and checked the valves and they all looked fine. Two pistons are up and two are down. Put the mixture back in and a jack under on of the pistons that is in the down position. It has been setting for about a week now. Any ideas??

was their oil int he lower end when you pulled the pan?

did you pull and rod or main caps for a looksee?

I drained out the oil in the pan. Is there supposed to be oil somewhere else? I have not pulled the rod caps yet.

Take the cover off the bottom of the clutch housing and make sure the coupling hasn't come apart and is locking the engine. That happened on our H once.

If the tractor is away from any building I would
put some diesel fuel on top of the piston that is down and set that piston on fire. You may need a little gasoline to get it started. Then see if the piston will move using a piece of oak and a big hammer. Remove anything flammable around the engine. Hal

I sure as he!! wouldn"t be trying to start it again. Start taking it apart to see what locked it up. Sounds like a spun bearing.

By the way did you change the oil before you tried to start it up?? If not that could be why it locked up. ATF in the oil works just fine but diesel in the oil is bad news and can cause that problem.
I NEVER mix any thing with ATF when working on a locked up engine

I would agree, pull the starter before going any farther, it could be locked up. If this is not the case, then pull the pan.

Thanks for the tip. When I had the tractor outside I took the starter off to get it rebuilt. I stuck a towel in the starter hole to keep the dirt out. A few days later I went out to pull the tractor in the shop, I noticed that the towel was missing. I thought to myself that a squirrel must have took it or the wind blew it away. When I took the clutch housing off, there was the towel in the flywheel. Now I can put the engine back together. "O" stupid Me! That's one for the books. Happy in Piedmont.
