Painting a flatbed, oil or latex paint?

Which is the best to use for a flatbed that sits outside, oil or latex base paint? Don't care to paint it again next year lol. Thank you.

If it is a flatbed truck then it more than likely already has oil based paint on it and I have never had much luck putting latex paint over oil based paint even though they say you can.

If it is a flatbed wagon with no paint on it then just get latex barn paint and slap it on real thick. The first coat will be sucked up fast by rough lumber.

Used crankcase oil from a diesel (really BLACK) - soaks in exceptionally well and lasts for years 8)

I used to put homemade flat beds on my pickups. The one I built was made of new pine 2x8's. When I finished I put used oil on it. It soaked in real good. After about 5 yrs the truck went sour, so we took the bed off and made it into a porch for a vacation cabin. 10 yrs later it was removed by next occupant.

Latex paint. I put a-bit of water in the first coat. Just give err all she will take. Let dry 100%. The next coat I put it on heavy and let dry. I get 3-4 years before I do it all over

If you paint it, which is not recommended, apply a heavy coat of linseed oil first, then use oil based paint thinned with linseed oil.
