I'm being invaded by ants. Remedy?

I'm being over run by them. They're everywhere. On the carpets, on the counter tops, even on my computer desk. Driving me nuts. What's a good safe remedy for the critters? I have a 3 month old grandson living with me in the house, and I'm concerned about him.

Orthro Home Defense is what we use. I spray around all the base boards every fall and in between if I see any. Pet safe. We are on a slab and when we first bought the house it was a problem. I very seldom see an ant anymore. It is quick acting stuff. I buy it in a gallon spray can at Sams Club. I have seen it in Walmart and Rural king as well.

Boric acid. look online for recipe. It'll wipe out roaches and ants except the little tiny type and the only way it'll hurt people and pets is if you were to snort a whole lotta powder up your nose. Ants either like sugary stuff or protein stuff so you melt some sugar and mix in a little boric acid they take it and feed it to there queen and they die off. There is a lot of info online about it. Over the years, I have had similar experience. Best advise I can give is to kill what you can find and [b:c8dcb35ca0]FIND THEIR ENTRANCE[/b:c8dcb35ca0]!
I know entrance can be hard to find and a professional exterminator may be necessary in some cases.
Fortunately I have always been able to get rid if them my self.
Today, it is much more difficult in the fact that so many products have been banned that really worked back in the day.
Years ago, you could buy a roll of insecticide tape that looked like electrical tape. That tape WORKED but was taken off market ---for some reason??

Terro Ant Killer. Put a few drops on a small piece of cardboard and place it in their path. Within two days they'll be gone. Best stuff we've ever found.

Hot Shot Liquid Ant Bait. I got mine at Lowes. It is not perfect but it did better than anything I have used including Terro.

We have an exterminator come twice a month at work
to spray. This past sunday he gave me some small
packets of "Arilon" made by Dupont. It's not
restricted and it's for ants. Hope this helps.

I second the Ortho Home Defense Max! This stuff is great and can be used indoors although I never have. I fought spiders on my white vinyl siding for years. Started using it as a perimeter spray and discovered it was pretty effective. Finally sprayed all around my widow edges, siding corners, eaves, etc. and haven't had spider problems since. Seems to be pretty long lasting too.

I'm not sure if they're critter friendly, but Raid Wasp Killer works great, as does Malathion. Ants seem to be related to wasps, and maybe bees. Malathion is a bee killer, so be careful not to use it in places bees frequent. We need all the bees we can get.

This stuff really works....you have to eliminate the ant"s home base...just spraying the ants you see will never solve the problem....but....you have to reapply this stuff after rains because ants come up from below and start all over again.

I asked that question to an acquaintance who manages a hardware store. I also was concerned because I have young children in the house. His reply, " Home Defense by Ortho. The stuff is great. If it crawls the stuff will kill it. Plus it last 3-6 months (depending on the rain) so its keeps killing for a long time. The best thing about this product is it can be used inside and out. So spray it around the foundation and doors. Then go inside on window sills and floors. Its odorless and tastless. So the kids and pets can't be hurt by it. In all honesty your youngest could take a drink of the stuff and it won't affect them. I don't reccomend it though. I have used it in the kitchen before. On countertops and around the pantry. your cant tell its there and it never affected anything. I understand your concern though.

Malathion is a great insect killer. Problem is its a got to come in contact while still we. There is no residual left behind. "

mix a couple tbls Borax soap with 2 tbls white sugar add enough water in a small sauce dish, can lid or small container,to make a slurry, place several for easy feeding. Not a quick kill. May take a month, but worker ants carry it back to nest. You will over time wipe out the entire colony.
