super m clutch

(quoted from post at 04:38:28 09/07/14) we are putting a new clutch and pressure plate on my super m how do you adjust the pressure plate fingers ?

A new pressure plate should already be adjusted to the proper height.

To assume its going to be set right when you get it is stupid, lazy and just plain pathetic. I don't care where it comes from, the fingers at a minimum should be checked before installation. Ive put in more of those clutched that were NOT in spec than those that were and yes, some of them were from your precious IH dealer.

in my 45 plus years of installing clutches doing repairs, I have seen two PPA's not set correctly, I always have the flywheel ground to specs, the last one I had to adjust was a IH "M" clutch I installed last year but this was the first one I ever installed without surfacing the flywheel, I also installed it with out splitting the tractor, I would guess I have installed 250-300 clutches easy

Same here. I've replaced clutches and pressure plates in cars, pickup trucks, tractors, and even helped with one heavy duty truck. Never had to adjust the fingers on a single one.

Well, guess what? Ive probably put in that many as well. Ive bought clutch kits from several sources over the years, including OEM. I have NEVER put one in without checking, and more than half of them have been wrong. Im talking IH clutches, as most of the "auto" clutches Ive put in don't have fingers. Even the ones from the mighty IH dealer have been wrong!! Theres no need to say "The fingers shouldn't need adjusting" just because you never have or have ever needed to. That's just laziness.
