Boought A Four Pack, Need Some Help...

Hi all, well, long story short, I paid a good chunk of change for 4 tractors, JD, B, A, G, GM.

The B tries to run, but needs a little love! Here is the problem, the oil filter/housing has been removed from the bottom of the tractor, but it is just hanging there! It will run, but I am afraid to run it because there is obviously no oil in the crank case...

What I want to know is, why would someone have taken it off, and what do I need to make sure is hooked it correctly?! I don't have a manual for it, but am going to look it over really good and try to diagnose a problem...

Hopefully someone has a good idea of what might be wrong, and what it may or may not take to fix it! Thanks, Bryce

Bryce , search around the JD forum , that topic comes up frequently , the inner housing gets distorted and the threads strip up at the top...We're gonna need to hear how you picked up that 4 pack , I've never found more than one at a time !! Although i did leave a Farmall H where I found it and bought the JD "B" across the yard from it , an excellent decision as it panned out .....

That oil filter issue occurs when someone should have installed a new oring with the new filter but decides to put a long wrench on the filter cap and cranks to "good and tight" torque which yanks the threaded stud out of the boss....

It's a pain in the tail to change. It is not really a wear part so Deere didn't make provisions for a quick change.

Hehehe, well, I saw all four of these machine for sale on CL, and I called the guy as soon as I saw them. The add said, G, A, B, B. When I got there, I quickly discovered that one of the tractors had "A" decals, but was actually a G, and the other big one was a GM. Next we went into the shop and I see that there is an Unstyled B, and a Early Styled A, both hand start!

We debated for a little bit, and I bought all four for $2000.

Got em all home yesterday, and here is the situation:

GM Stuck
G Stuck
B GREAT shape, had it running pretty good on rancid gas!
A Fuel lines are gone, but I think it would run too, pretty good shape...

Thanks, Bryce
