New UTV vs. golf cart

The time has finally come where my golf cart needs to be put out to pasture.

Looking for opinions, do I go with another golf cart or a smaller UTV. Kubota, Polaris, JD gator.

For $2000 I can find nice used golf carts all day long, add a lift kit and tires. UTVs even used cost considerably more. But you get a lot more. 4wd, towing, payload capacity.

Right now, I am leaning towards another used golf cart, mainly because this one has served well the last 15 years of mostly everyday use. I wouldn't mind the extra speed, 4wd, and capacity of a UTV, but is it worth it?

I only have 40 acres of tree farm, and another 27 next door that I need to cover.

I have thought about this for my self and I think a Jeep CJ from the 40's-50s might be best .
Motorcycle folk seem to prefer Golf cats and tractor folk UTV.

I just bought a golf cart early summer, really enjoy it. Might be interested in yours if you aren't too far from S E Mn. Post here please.
Thanks Pete

I've got a golf cart. Love it. Don't golf, but I check livestock and repair fence and it's my gofer. I got it thinking it was a cheap way to see if I'd really use a UTV enough. I wouldn't. I have tractors and such that can do more and go the same places as I'd take a UTV. So for me a UTV is an unneeded expense.

I have a Kubota RTV. I would hate to be without it. It gets used everyday. That RTV will do so much more than any golf cart but yes they are more expensive, but in my opinion are well worth it.

If you are looking at cheap, which it sounds like, golf cart.

I like my kaw 4010 mule 4x4, hi/low range. A golf cart or a 2x4 wouldn't work for me.

You guys have basically told me what I have kind of been thinking.

To get the power and the 4wd I am gonna pay for it. I get the golf cart stuck a few times a year in the spring, and could definitely do more if I had a 4wd UTV.

Digging trees and planting the first two weeks in April can be really nice or we can get snowed on.

Hmmm.... Lets see if I can convince the boss to spend a little more and upgrade.

I'm toying with building a bed on the back of my '91 Suzuki Sidekick...short wheelbase 4x4, heater, licensed for highway use, radio/cd player, hi/lo range, 75mph capable....and less than $2000!

Wait for next years models to come out, then shop around. Used 2x4 gators were around $5600+. I picked up a new 2012 mule 4010 the last day of 2012, $7500+$500 dealer prep=$8000 plus tax. I'm glad I went with the begger 4010 over the 610 which my neighbor paid the same as I did for a smaller mule. The 4010 has power steering, hyd brakes all the way around, hi/lo, 4x4, bigger bed, I carry over 1000#, fuel injected, uses 1 gal/2 hours, water cooled. I thouht it was a good deal for price and what I got.

Trust me the boss will like it. She drives it more than I do, gardening, grandkids, moving mulch, transplanting flowers. It's a work horse.
