Hesston 8400 swather

Looking at this swather and there is leakage around the input shaft that drives the hydrostatic header pump. Also leakage around the header motor output shaft. The parts diagrams show seals for both of these shafts that look easy enough to replace. Just wondering if replacing those seals would actually stop the leaks. Anyone have experience with this?

Shaft seal leaks like this are not uncommon and as you say the seals are easy to replace. As long as the shaft isn't grooved it should fix the problem but you're not going to know this until you pull the old seals off. Just be careful when sliding the new seal over the shaft to not damage it on the spline/keyway. A plastic boot to guide the seal over the shaft may be available from the dealer but a few wraps of thin tape around the shaft also works.

If the shafts are grooved you can install Speedi-sleeves to level it out. A thin coat of Loctite Sleeve Sealer on the shaft will help installation of the sleeve and insures no lube creeping under it.
