O.T. 8 bolt pickup wheels

I have a trailer made out of a 78 F250. It has 16.5" wheels. I would like to change to 16" rims because of better availability of tires. My neighbor has some that came off of a chevy. He says the bolt pattern is the same, but the pilot hole is a little larger. My thoughts are that the conical lug nuts center the wheel and carry all the load. In my opinion if there is a 1/32" clearance, there just as well have a 1/4"
Any arguments with my logic?
Thanks, Roy

No problem.Just keep em tight.I've been running white spokes on my '70 F100 ford for 20 +plus years that the pilot was too big. Those 5 bolts have carried tremendous loads over the years.8 bolts even better.

The Chev 8 bolt wheels of that era had a smaller center hole than either Ford or Dodge. The factory Chev wheels will not fit the Ford hubs. Aftermarket wheels were made to fit all 3 brands. Try them before you buy them.

Your era Ford has a larger center bore than the GM.
4 3/4" I believe. 16.5" are considered obsolete. That being said I am looking for some 16.5" rims for my old trailer. I have a full set of old like new 16.5" tires that will be good enough for a trailer. Let me know if you want to get rid of a couple. I am in Oregon.

Chevy/GMC rims will fit on the front of a Ford and Doge. Will not fit on the rear of a Ford or Dodge.
Aftermarket will fit on either one
