finish mowers

I'd like to get a finish mower to use behind the 8n when funds allow. Do i need to use an ORC or would just an adapter be fine?

No orc needed for a finish mower.
A finish mower does have some inertia when it's fully spun up but probably only about 1/4 of what a rotary mower has.

You will need a over riding clutch. Can't shift from forward to reverse without one, unless blades are completely stopped. Had one behind a 40 JD. Vic

Tractors without live power are so much easier and safer to use with an orc. You won't regret putting it on. I've been there.

I'm like VicS, you'll need an ORC. It just makes a difference.
I have a belly mower on my farmall H and yes there is a little inertia there and you have to wait until the mower stops to shift gears or to go from neutral into gear, that and I found mowing in certain spots where you want to stop quick I have to pull the shift lever out of gear when I'm pushing in the clutch when I could be using that hand to lift the mower instead of shifting the shift lever before I shift into reverse.

My finish mower will push my 8N about 12 feet when you step on the clutch. It's up to you. Me? I put an ORC on mine.

I have a 6" Landpride on my 8n. Before I put the ORC on it it twisted the pto adapter. My 5" Caroni didn"t do that. If it was me, I would put the ORC on no matter what.
