OT-hot spots on pets

have a shi-tzu that has them occasionally usually an allergy of some sort causes them vet gives a shot and some tablets clears up fairly quick

Got a spray solution from the Vet for this.We spray it two to three times a day. Dog will not lick the spot either. It is called GentaVed Topical Spray. Works great , long time before any more hot spots show up.

We had a black lab that had them caused by allergies. We got proactive after a few trips to the vet. Gave her benedryl daily as a preventative. Never had any more problems. Cost more for the ham to make her swallow the pills than the pills cost. She was a smart one. Lived to be 14 1/2.

another possibility is plugged glands. our poodle was dragging his behind on floor & chewed the hair off his tail. vet said plugged glands expressed them, end of problem. leroy

Bill Engvall said he had to give his dog a pill to make his poop taste bad so he would stop eating it! Is this the same treatment, only in a spray? LOL

Our dog (Aussie)had the same problem, turns out he was allergic to the grains in his food, switched to a grain free and problem solved. Yes its more expensive but it beats a vet bill for treatment. also noticed when we switched to "better" food there was less "waste" in the yard to mow over. worked for us wouldnt hurt to try a bag and see.

I agree with the benadryl. You can get a generic brand that is pretty cheap. I give my 50lb dog .25mg twice a day.

Got a really neat "pill popper" from the vet that makes giving pills easy.

In the meantime, I would use a good topical ointment for the area.
