Case 400 steering gear

I was baling with my '56 Case 400. As i turned the steering wheel it would bind at certain spots. Finally it just quit moving the wheels. I have a '55 parts tractor. Is it reasonable to change steering gears? Help/

Which 400 do you have? If it's the gear in front of the radiator then it's easy. If it's a narrow front you have to pull that or the tie rod bracket. Then just pull the nose cone and that steel frame. There will be a row of bolts around it. Pull the bolts and shaft and it should come out.
