I was up in the woods cutting firewood this afternoon. I happend to be refueling my saw when cellphone rang. Women on the other end said my credit card had been compromised, and was shut down.
She asked for all the numbers on my card for varification.
I told her that I was in the middle of a 100A wood lot and never carry my wallet when cutting wood. She said call her as soon as posible. When I got home I had the wife call the recorded # on my phone. Verison message, (number not in service).
The wife call our card 800#.
They said they had not closed my card down, and it was not compromised.
My wife's was compromised last week, and our CC company had shut it down WITH bogus charges.
Be careful out there,-- make them verify who they are and read your credit card # to you, to verify that is yours, rather than giving it to them. If they can't, hang up and call the phone # on the back of your card.

Watch for another scam. Phone call swaying they were from the IRS and their record show you owe a
(given) amount to them. Pay up now or go to jail.
IRS doesn't do it that way. Watch out. leej

Not a scam , but I had some fun with a wrong number last week. I got a text something about returning a TV within 2 hours, or he/she was calling the cops. I returned " bring it on send them. After 3or 4 texts back they text "who is this? fun fun

I like the one that when they call you up, they say there isn't anything wrong vith yo credit card but its important that you call this number.
Or the one that say, this is the last time you will get a call.
I always tell them I hope this is the last call.

With the Fall Season around the corner, it's also the time for telephone solicitors to be calling. Sign up on the "Do Not Call List" and still get bothered when doing the farming chores.
Telephone soliciting should be against the law!

I get several calls like this every week. Being retired and having nothing much else to do, I screw around with them for as long as I can before they wise up. I figure it keeps them off of someone else for a few minutes.

I got one call like that on my cell phone.

I knew right away it was a scam 'cause there's no way my credit card company would have my cell phone number.

I listened to the message, but didn't bother to respond.

I had a call similar to that a couple of years ago and said my card was frozen until I called back. They left a number but I called the one that comes with the bill. Turns out it was frozen - we had bought some things in places that weren't normal for us (one was from England) and it triggered a freeze until we called and verified we were actually the people buying. It was good to know the credit card company noticed the odd purchases. I would never call a number left on the phone just to be on the safe side as more times than not it will be a scam.

i had two the same day. telling me to turn my computer on because I had a virus they need to remove. Said they were from homeland sercurity.

When someone calls you about credit card fraud, if you have any reason to doubt they are who they say, ask for their extension and tell them you will call them back on the fraud number on the back of your card. If they're legit, this will present no problem.

A couple of weeks ago Marilyn got an angry call on her cell phone from a man telling her to not solicit him again. Her phone had been hijacked by a scammer and her number came up on his caller ID. She called Verizon and Verizon told her about the only way to stop it is to give her a new number. It's kind of a pain because she had to notify her friends and family of the new number. I still don't have the new number memorized.

Never give personal, financial, computer, or internet information over the phone unless you initiated the call and know who you are talking to.

Security, investment companies, credit card companies, IRS, Social Security, etc do not make contact about accounts by phone, email or text. It is almost always by regular mail.

I get endless calls to lower my credit card rates, fix my computer virus, etc. I just let them know that I know it is a scam and wonder how they can live with their conscience. I win when they hang up on me.

Yes we get those in The UK too. I had one from "Microsoft", a guy with an Indian accent . I told him to "Go forth and multiply" (or words to that effect!)

Yes a similar thing happened to me when I bought an airline ticket online from another country's website. Kinda reassuring isn't it!

I occasionally answer the calls when I can't see the caller ID. If they ask for information, and I have time, I just give them (A NUMBER) and any other information they want! Of course, I make up the information and if they call back I say "Well, don't know how that happened, try this one.
Just a shame that the telephone company could stop this!!
They wont because they are making far more money from scam calls then from your account!
I have a friend that says he has a lot of fun asking nasty questions to whoever calls. He says they hang up and don't call back.
Last call I got, first question was "how are you today?"
Well, I spilled ALL my problems along with problem I had in grocery store! They hung up before I finished????
