Question about Deere memorabilia

Not trying to start a war like always seems to break out when the Deere subject comes up,but I really do have a question.
A flea market vendor told me that as of about a year ago,he can't buy any more John Deere signs. He said that Deere has done the same thing that Harley Davidson has been doing for several years now. That things with the Deere name on them are only available to and from Deere dealers now.
TSC still has Deere toys don't they? I wonder if they can still get them or are they just burning off inventory?

If the toys are licensed by deere anyone can sell them. As long as deere gets a cut they don't care. The people who sell john deere decals have to have a license to sell them. That's why the price went up.People who use john deere in an email address are also being told to stop.People who make reproduction parts can't mark them as john deere unless they have a licence.

I (partially) mowed our church cemetery this afternoon and there are probably 6 or 8 stones that have a John Deere tractor engraved into the stone. I wonder if Mother Deere is going to go after them for royalties? May she have a lot of luck trying.

all companies have licensed toys hats etc yes CNH agco and anybody selling merchandise with there names logos need to pay a license fee with the company who owns the trademark / name .

I wonder if anyone has ever mounted the front end of a Deere tractor on a wall, the same as you would mount a trophy deer head or other game animal? LOL!

I looked up the licensing requirements on the jd website and they are rather stringent. But although they do require products to be available to dealers I do not see a provision for exclusive sales to dealers only. I believe that would be a marketing mistake as most of the public who purchases those branded items will never shop at a dealership. Probably the supplier in question has lost or relinquished his license for whatever reason and has discontinued the line.

(quoted from post at 07:32:16 08/22/14) Sounds like the company he was buying from must have lost their agreement then.

The company he was purchasing from probably never had an agreement with Deere and were caught.

There used to be a couple from Maryland that travelled to tractor shows. They made and sold the plastic placards people put on tractors with things like year, model, name address and such. Their cash register was setup with a special John Deere key. Anything they sold with any type on John Deere name or logo had to be rung up on that key. I asked why, and the lady said it was because they had to track it, so they could be sure that they paid Mother Deere her 10%.

He was most likely selling unlicenced merchandise which all companies have trademarks and license have your ever looked at any toys or anything else you've bought ? If anybody is only allowing stuff to be sold at the dealer its case and agco have you ever seen an alis Chalmers key chain at a truck stop ? The toy manufacturers do have what they say are dealer only items but all the toy places still have em anyway binkely hurst has any john deere or agco toy you want and they are a mega mart fiat dealer

She said they paid everyone else a yearly fee, but Deere got a fee plus 10%. I'm only repeating what she said. This was 20 years or more ago.

I doubt John Deere will reign in on advertising since world wide its a billion dollar industry for mother deere. They practically invented how to sell their name vs. selling actual product.

JD has allowed people to put their name on anything from coffee cups to toilet seats so long as they paid the royalty fee. CNH is a good example of both sides of the coin. They're trying to bury the J.I.Case history and heritage within the company so other than a few toys and your random odd sign or thermometer, they don't license the J.I.Case name or logo to anyone. But go to a toy show, tractor show, CaseIH dealership, Tractor Supply or a Walmart and, like deere, you can buy any article of clothing, yard art, tools or trinket you can imagine with the IH or Farmall logo on it. And CNH, like deere, gets big bucks for licensing all that stuff.

I heard that one of the tractor magazines got served with an injunction for having a picture of a D**re tractor on its calendar.

I work for Deere and I can tell you that they have people who do nothing but sit and look for places that their name or trademarks,etc...are being used without their permission. Deere highly protects its name and trademarks.

I think John Deere is just a big bully. I noticed the spray paint at the farm store no longer has the John deere name on the cans.

John deere makes more money selling there name than they do selling products. Most Deere stuff anymore is just junk. There lawn and garden stuff is just over priced junk. You can get a better made mower at Wal-mart.

Ertl has licensing agreements with many companies, including John Deere, and TSC sells Ertl toys.

I believe the toy tractor I had growing up was a Tru-Scale that was a red tricycle gear tractor. It wasn't sold as a Farmall so they didn't have licensing issues, but we knew what it was. The cheap plastic tractors in the stores are red or green, but no logos so no licenses, but we we know.
