Danged stupid birds

The cat was just sitting here and perked up looking out the slider. I turned around and those sandhill cranes were right in the yard. Darned things are getting way too brave. A little out of the cat's league too if she thought she was gonna take one down I'm afraid.

There was big deal a few years ago about saving habitat for the sandhill cranes, what is the problem with them now? Don't have them here. We do have fire ants, no animal rights people wanting to save them.

We farm a federal wildlife refuge here in Tennessee, when the cranes come we are prohibited from even going around them. Big deal in these parts.

I had a permit to kill 10 a year because they're such a nuisance. I let it expire since I found a seed treatment that keeps them from eating it.

No; they are not good eating. My oldest brother shot into a flock of wild geese, but the bird that came down was a sandhill crane. Mom cooked it, but it was plain awful. Cats didn't care for it either.

We're a "fly over zone." They nest in a swampy area over on neighbor's place. Sure are noisy when they go over. Tempting target practice.

It would make for a cool video with a cat hanging on the back of the bird as it takes off lol.

These things have taken up residence in my bunker silo all summer. Been in there since the little one was too small to even fly.
If somebody wants to "save their habitat",maybe they can pay for some repair and maintenance on that if it needs it. There were two little ones, but one got hit by a car while crossing the road.

First time the wife saw one around here, she thought it was an emu that had escaped from somewhere.

My nephew tossed one on the grille. My son said the meat was the texture of liver. He said it wasn't any good, but I don't know how it would have been if they had taken the time to cook it right. If there is a right way.

22 works good at that range and they are good eating . just take the breast meat thou unless you dont mind the many fine bones in the drumsticks.

You have to hit them just right to kill them though. The kill zone is about the size of a sausage. Miss that and the feathers just fly and they take off.

We had a pair like that in the wheat stuble today. They don't seam to be afraid of you I got close to them and they did nothing. You have check with your state because they are a migratory bird and Whooping are protected no open season on them. I know on some animals if they are doing damage to crops you can get permit to take them out of season.

takes good ammo when the wings are folded down those feathers make a good shield and cheap ammo will bounce right off.the danged things have cost me enough that i dont hesitate anymore you wouldn't see them walking throu my yard the second time. and they are good eating and quick to get the breast meat off.

They make up for it in numbers. If they would all gang up,they could bring down a grizzly bear.

I HATE those things I have 4 that try and roam my back yard. Stupid thing ate 10 acres of corn in one day at the farm . Must have been 30 of them walking side by side down the rows.
